Somebody buy this and ship it to me to fix!
Viper Project

We'll work out the details later.

I'm thinking about it. That's exactly what I want for my everyday guitar. Is The Trawler one of ours?
Question: Does the bridge pickup hole look like it's been reamed for a different pickup, or does it look standard?

I think that only the pickguard is modified and the Pup removed. If it is reamed it won't matter much.

Think about a light lacquer coat on the natural body with a flaming Koa PG. Ask Moody how the Phat Cats sound on his Viper!

Go with three in line knobs and 500k pots. Use a blender instead of a three way switch.

If the neck is in good shape keep the gloss. If not go with Tung oil and a lacquered peghead face. Then the black plastic dots can be changed to abalone.

Arney - Need a second one to draw to?

I can't tell for sure - what's that line in the neck from nut to 3rd fret?

Woody - what would it cost to refurb this thing?

I have all the parts except for the replacement Pups. Labor is at the "Hobbyist" rate (free).

That line is just grain. These are some of the best necks ever. When they are done in Tung Oil they are sooooooo interesting.

Woodrow does great work. If anybody's been thinking about a Viper, this is a great opportunity to get one.

Nobody hold up on my account. I have just about got all my money together for a Balladeer, and I plan to get that first anyway. Vipers pop up all the time.

Needs a new pickguard anyway. The area around the jack is missing part of it.

I'm gonna keep an eye on it. If I can get it cheap enough, I'd like to get a viper, and if I can get a "Woody's Custom Shop" model that would be too cool.

Too bad I just spent my money on a Steinberger. The Viper looks like an excellent project candidate. :)

I'm going to try to snag it if the price doesn't start climbing.

bump - I'm becoming more and more interested in this as the time draws close. Never had an O solid body and would love to work with MWoody on it - Waskel, are you going for it? Obviously, if you are, I'll stand down.

The Vipers show up frequently. One out of 6 are missing parts or beat up (my favorite).

This one might only need a pickguard:
six days to go

Weaser I will answer your email today. Morning came way too early today.

Thanks, Mike. Will await your response and the better half's green light with equal parts enthusiasm. New to GAS (and just picked up my Tak a month or so ago) but it's biting hard here.

Yes, thanks, Weaser, I am going for it. Waiting till the last minute, tho, don't want to run it up too fast.

Thanks, Weas, but keep an eye on it, I'm only going to $125. If it's worth more than that to you, take it from there!

I probably wouldn't do much more than that either but my shot would be a one time last second snipe and I'd hate to snag it from a fellow family member. Beyond that, I have a project at home that's awaiting time and cash (an old LP copy) - If I'm out here, I'll update that one, Ebay it and get back in line for another shot at an O hardbody. Would love an old breadwinner but that's probably a pipe dream. Anyway, I'll watch from the grassy knoll but will in all probability watch it go by.

Thanks.

WeaserP, I have lots of "O" solid bodies available. Most are in excellent shape so w
ould not be an ebay steal....but you get what you pay for. Currently have several vipers, a nice preacher, and a Deacon, if interested.

Saw that, Waskel. I feel better now.

T28 - I would love to get inside that sound room of yours just to play them all side by side but you would never get me out. And, yes, I can see that they're all in excellent shape which, unfortunately, works against me. I'm working on building up the fund and maybe some day I'd be able to take advantage of your available stash. Until then I just hope to take advantage of everyones humor and expertise. Keep up the good work! :D
