I have a chance to buy this tommorrow for $575. This guitar was his brother's who died over 30 years ago. His parent have had it stored since then. It is like new. It plays great with low action. Case has some slight scuff marks.
Is this a good price?

Yes!
And if you don't play guitar I would gladly take it off your hands.

Oops, my manners...

Welcome to the OFC and my condolences on your Brother's death. If you wanted to check a fair "Market Value" on Ebay you would find between $1000 and $1800 for an original Deacon 12 with case.

I'm guessing that payment/profit aren't the most importand factors here but you want to be fair.

And again, welcome!

Thanks for your info. It was the seller's brother. I just met this guy yesterday through crieg's list. I have to wait until Tuesday to get the money from my savings. This is an amasing guitar. I thought it might be worth more.

I want to keep it awhile at least to see how much I get attached to it. I mainly play Gibson Les Pauls

Welcome to the Ovation Family!

Now I see why you included the wheelbarrow in the pic. Nice set ups.

I don't like it. I want to get rid of it and use the money towards a Gibson Les Paul Tribute. I cant play this thing. Too many strings. The problem selling it on the net is that I no longer have Paypal. I am going to put it on the local Craig's List. It is a nice looking guitar except two things. The black plastic thing over the bridge is loose and won't sit back down. It looks like the strings must be romoved first to fix it. Also, there are litle spots on the mid stripe on the back of the neck. These seem to somehow be in the finish. They are not pitted or raised above the finish. They are just a slightly different color and don't show in photos. The case is great inside. Outside it has a few scuff marks and the hindges have some rust. How much do you think I should post it for?

The black strip on the back of the neck is graphite (for strength). You'll see spots in there.

As to the bridge, we could help you with that.

What we can't help with is that you're just not comfortable with the guitar. That's too bad as it's one of the best electric 12's out there. But I know how you feel. I had a Preacher 12 string (same guitar but with a different body shape) and just never got comfortable with it either.

But there are a lot of people here who are comfortable with them and love them.....

I can't sell it on the internet. I no longer have paypal. I answered an email that I thought was from paypal. It was a scam. Paypal wouldn't take care of the damages.

How do I fix the bridge?

I want to put this on CL tonight or soon as I can.

What would be a fair price? How much did you sell your's for?

I placed it in the for sale galary for $1000 OBO or trade for good accoustic. I might take a good 6 string for it too.

Nice profit on a guitar you don't like...if it sells (with times being a bit tough for a lot of folks).

Like Paul mentioned, one of the best 12's out there but if the feel and shape don't cut it for you then it isn't much use in hanging on.

Try making the bottom four courses (EADG) single string only, leave the top (B's and E's)as they are. You might be amazed at how you will love this beauty.

I've made a deal with Randy username northcountry. I decided that since I am new to the site and no one knows me that I would send him the Deacon first. Once he receives it he will know that I am on the up and up. He then will send me his 60's reissue Strat. I don't know Randy anymore than he knows me, but you on this site have known him for a long time. I sense from talking on the phone that he a honest person. However, my wife would feel better if I inquired about his reputation and standing here. If you have had any dealing with him. Please let me know what you think about me doing this deal this way. He is aware that I would be making this inquiry and has agree to it.
