Oh, and one is a 12 fretter and the other is a 14 fretter. Yummy ... It's no secret that I have been a huge fan of the 12 fret LAV KOA since the day serial no. 1 dropped into my hands. Some of you know the background to the story. It's been one of my favorite guitars ever since and probably gets more play time than any other Ovation in the house. The looks, feel, sound, everything about it is spot on perfect. I added the iDEA pre-amp because this is the guitar where I do all my "noodling around" and hey, you never know when the perfect melody or riff might hit you. And the fact that it does NOT sound like every other Ovation is what makes it so damn desirable. I was so sold on it that when the second wave came around, this time as 14 fret guitars I was sort of ho-hum and not really interested. Actually never gave them another thought, although I know a few members here bought them and liked them. Fast forward to the past few weeks and due to a number of events presenting themselves to me I had the opportunity to get my hands on serial no. ** of the 14 fretter. It was a complete impulse buy with no logic or rationale to it whatsoever but I did it. One of those "wtf" moments. As you can see in the photo, the twins look pretty damn nice together (if you ask me). Similar Koa patterning and they share the same beautiful appointments and quality fit and finish. The 14 fretter has the nice 5 piece neck, which I miss on the 12. What I was NOT prepared for, now get this ... the 14 fretter sounds Just Freaking Awesome. To be honest I expected it would be a dumbed down version of the 12 fret, due to the bridge placement. But no sir. This thing sings like an angel and has some lungs that the 12 fretter doesn't quite seem to have. More high end without losing any of the 12 fretters bass response. I truly wonderful sounding guitar. I wouldn't say better/worst, but different in a VERY GOOD kind of way. Conclusion, I'm TOTALLY thrilled with this guitar and it's a great addition to the war chest. Not to sound like a sales pitch but anyone sitting on the fence should seriously consider throwing their economic stimulus money to one of these 14 fretters. They are just incredible in every way. And certainly not hard on the eyes. Thanks Al, as usual." ![]()

Gallerinski posted January 09, 2010 12:45 PM We need to remind ourselves that ovations are working mans tools like hammers and screwdrivers. They are not pieces of art. Dave ..... Except sometimes they can get kinda artsy. Very nice Dave. I hope I someday get the chance to spend some time pickin' & playin' stuff right off your wall.

And you did a SPECTACULAR bit of photography! Worthy of Willa! Dave has been posting excellent photos of guitars on this board for nearly 8 years. No offense to Willa, but I think Dave's shots are consistently among the best I see here, showing great detail.

I could just be annoying and drop by every day like Kramer on Seinfield. ...Come to think of it, Arizona sounds kinda' nice right about now. Got any apartments nearby? (:

I think Alan was trying to compliment Dave by comparing his pics to Willa's because Willa is a professional photographer. I, on the other hand, am photographically challenged. Part of the problem is I always forget to bring a camera, and part of it is I'm not used to the "viewfinder" on these newfangled digital cameras. So I'm hoping that everyone who comes to the First Annual Rocky Racoon Memorial Black Hills OFC Gathering next summer will bring cameras and take lots of pictures. And if anyone has a video recorder, that would be great. Not only can we get shots of each other, but maybe one of you artistically gifted folks could take a few pics of my guitars for next years callendar. :)
