To ask what a guitar is worth after just buying it from one of the above mentioned members (who I HAVE meet and respect) implies you think you maybe got taken a bit? TRUST ME, you got a great deal!! YOU should probably "chill" a bit. OMHO!

If you factor inflation in for the past 29 years at 5% your guitar would sell for about $1690 today. If the theory that guitars improve in their sound with age, you can at least double that amount. So ... I'd say you have a $2435 guitar. So ... How much DID you pay for it??

A: This is probably the most frequently asked question, and the hardest to answer. Worth is very subjective and changes rapidly with fickle markets. What something ultimately is worth is a combination of what one person is willing to pay versus what another person is willing to accept. Many factors, not the least of which is the actual condition of the guitar, will affect the selling price. There are so many other factors involved in pricing a musical instrument. Is is collectable? Is it rare? Is it popular? The best way to get an idea of what your guitar might sell for is to use the "Completed Auctions" feature of eBay Search to see what similar models have sold for recently. Other online resources include www.gbase.com and www.guitarlist.com. Your best bet, unless you need it appraised for insurance or other reasons, is to try and ask yourself "How much is this instrument worth to me?" More value related resources include the "The Blue Book of Acoustic Guitars" and "The Blue Book of Electric Guitars" both edited by S. P. Fjestad and available in paperback by Gurney Brown. There is also the software version "The S-Book of Guitars" by S. P. Fjestad. Click here to connect to Blue Book Publishing, Inc." As a general rule, most Ovations over, say 15 years old, can fetch pretty much exactly what they retailed for when new. That is to say, if it sold new for $750 in 1980, you likely won't get more than 750 of today's dollars for it, IF it's in dead mint condition (and considerably less if it's shows wear). Also available from the Reference link above is an historical price list . Look up your model and year, and the price new is, as I said, about the maximum you can expect it will bring today. Of course there are exceptions for certain rare and/or desirable models, but nearly everyone who has knowledge of those exceptions is right here.

You asked how much it was worth, and only after people questioned your motives did you state you were looking for how much it will be worth OVER TIME. You can't blame people for thinking either you believe you got ripped off, or that you wanted to resell it and make a killing. To ME it sounds like the latter when I see that you took bvince's facetious post seriously. Another thing that makes me think that is, you never mentioned the tone or playability. Most real musicians are much more concerned with the SOUND of a guitar than the "condition". It makes me suspect that you don't even play and just bought this guitar to make money. You may consider us nasty and immature, but I'd rather be nasty and immature than a mercenary son of a gun. If I am wrong about this I apologize, but unless you like giving offense, you need to learn to express yourself more coherently so people don't misunderstand you.

Because the answer doesn't say you're going to get rich off an old guitar that's derided and ridiculed by the vast majority of guitar players today? Or because you thought that Mike sold it far below market value and you were hoping for confirmation that you'd pulled a fast one? Here's an adult response: FU

I found my answer. I don't know why this is still going on. I am NOT trying to get rich off of this r u kidding me? For ur info I play every friken day. The guitar is amazing. I would Never EVER sell this. I only came on here to ask a quick question from nice people who would know. But instead I got nasty remarks and I took offense to it. So Im letting EVERYONE know that nothings happening ok? I just asked a simple question. Why would I want to pull a FAST ONE? Im ending this. I only asked a simple question. Jeez. Thank you. Also G8r-----theres no need for you "adult" response.

Wasn't there a time a few months ago where everybody was pissed at the oldsters for being nasty? You kids learn fast. Johnston, first, congrats on buying a terrific guitar. It's beautiful and I bet it sounds great. You're going to get a lot of enjoyment out of it. Second, Listen to G8r, Gallerinski, and Stonebobbo. Ignore everybody else as it appears they are all pms'ing......
