If you go near that baby with a chain saw you would really be going out on a limb.

I knew Damon's skills dwarfed mine as a guitar player or photographer, but I thought at least I had a big tree.

Reminds me of visiting Sequoia National Park when I was younger.
Amazing to stand near one of those big redwoods.
I didn't know Sitkas got that big though.
I know they sound good when made into CL's :
Actually I think my 88 Collectors is made of Sitka Spruce too.

There is a 300' tall Sitka Spruce on Vancouver Island and the previous US Title holder "Klootchy" in Oregon succumbed to a Winter Storm in 2007.

picea sitchensis
Sitka spruce
Grows along the northwestern coast of the United States and Canada all the way up into Alaska.
Very good stiffness provides a strong fundamental to overtone ratio. Sitka will make for a guitar which can be played louder than Engelman without losing clarity. It is one of the most popular tonewoods for guitar top wood and is now the primary top wood for Martin. Although it an have a longer breakin time than other spruce Sitka is well worth the wait and at the end of it's breakin period the results can be quite a bit better than where it started. Sitka has a tendency to be more visually colored than other spruce.

And Mark,

Does size really matter?

Um Mark...

Those guitars need to be sitting next to a graphite tree.

Woody, this one's over 270'. Here's what it said on the plaque in the Hoh Rainforest.

I didn't want to, and couldn't fit all my guitars in the back of the SUV, like someone I know. I guess I can do without all the rain and be satisfied with the Ponderosa Pine growing next to the cabin. The spruces aren't doing too well up there.
The deck is still waiting for a jam.

That's because you never invited me.
I can play the Jim Croce stuff. Leastways my playing has been compared to that of a junkyard dog.

Hey, stranger, I've been inviting everyone for years, but all these Americans seem to think it's too far. If you need a special invitation, this is it, because I can't PM or email you. I'll even supply the Ute, so you don't have to worry about carrying yours on the plane. I could probably get you a job coaching a field goal kicker (American football) who seems to have a problem kicking from the left side.

It appears we do have the largest Engelmann Spruce in the country, along with a couple of the largest pines. I'll go try to find them, so I can show them to schroeder when he comes to visit.
