Hi there I am new here...

Are there any strongly favored classical models?

That would be specifically for amplified playing

Also, any classical models in black?

Reasonable prices for each used?

Thanks for your help!

Just rehabbed a CC-059. Shallow-bowl, single-cutaway, classical, with an OP-10 Applause preamp. Pretty much fits your description. New ones are about $400.00, but have an OP20 preamp.
Now, if you want a REAL nice classical, go for a 1773. A bit more spendy, though.

The older Ovation Concert Classic models are pretty nice. (nice pic there Dweeze) I used to own one, and I easily upgraded the electronics to the OP24 since the original electronics were not working. There were a couple different models over the years but this is the one I had (link below), and it had a deep bowl (which I preferred). It was built like a tank, but was a bit heavy for me when compared to a traditional classical.(I also really like the scrolled fretboard termination) I finally found a nice compromise in the Country Artist and enjoy the narrower neck for my stubby fingers. The Country Artist sounds like a good compromise, I could not handle a 2" width.

Did they make any in black?

All my other stage guitars are black, including my Ovation 6 and 12

Model Number?...

Also how to buy the preamps seperately,? Sorry I am new.

This current thread has some info, looks like we've identified a 1624 Country Artist: http://www.ovationfanclub.com/cgi-bin/ubb/non-cgi/ultimatebb.php?ub...

There are some later versions (6773? 6773LX?) that have a cutaway and usually sell for a bit more.

Dunno if they made black ones. edit: here's a lefty example: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Custom-Lefty-Ovation-6773-Country-Artist-Left...

You could probably special order the 6773LX in black through Al (aka, alpep) because it only comes standard with the natural finish. It also comes with one of the latest OpPro Studio pickup (probably the best one made so far). If you needed to go used and you could get one cheap enough(good luck on that one), you may be able to send it to the factory for a paint job. It may sound crazy to them though, with the tortise rossette.

Welcome Steve!
Where are you in California?

Classical or just nylon strung?
Current offerings from Ovation in the Classical area are the 1773LX mid-depth bowl and it's brother, the 2073LX deep contour bowl. Their nuts are 1 7/8".

If you are looking for a nylon strung stage guitar, maybe you want to find an EA63.
The EA63 has a chambered solid body (Godin also makes a comparable).
They also painted them black. One of the guys had this one made with a satin finish.

I have an EA63 and a Godin here and Moody has a custom 1773LX. If you are close, you can check them out. Well... Moody is usually friendly.

I am in Riverside , I have the Godin but not particularly in love with it. It is too heavy.... and the sound is marginal

Steve, I'd talk to Sergio Lara (Country Artist on the OFC) about nylon strung Ovations and Godins.
He does not mention Ovations in this Godin interview, but he plays them.

OK, picked up a 6773 for $500. One minor scratch on the top but other than that very nice OP-X preamp.

Is $500 a good deal.....???

Johnny, here's another to add to your spread sheet ... this is my 1116-4. I love that little curl over the rosette:

Noah, I love your EA 63, and I wanted Patch's CA, but I ran out of moolah!

Vince, I wish I still had my 1116-4 (shown above in my last post) and would love to get hold of another one to keep. I gave mine to my ex husband and I regret it still. I hate to admit it, but he just made it sound so lovely, I handed her right over. You are right, it was a real "El Kabong", but I actually sort of like that big fat, flat neck TANK of a guitar.

At least I have the beauty I got from JM (Thanks so much, Mitz!), which I LOVE and played Christmas songs on all week! It'a a shiny bowl and like a feather compared to the 1116-4. Hope I can pick up another 1116-4 someday in the same perfect condition as the one I had. :(

Yikes, Paul ... and it has the wrong strings on it ... not to mention they look like they've been on there since it left the factory (groan) ... would like to hope the neck isn't all screwed up. Phooey!

Iffy, your comment went right over my head ... are you referring to the headstock mess of STEEL strings on the one Paul's referring to or those beautiful machines on my shiny bowl or ... what? (I'm going to keep my eye out for a 1763-4 too.)

Confused as usual ...

Hugs,
Willa
