Just got back from taking Patty out for dinner and found da FUD like this...

It's been my go to git since I adopted it from Andrew in June. It even made the SSSJ with me.

So, what's the 'O' Hive Mind's suggestions/inputs?

Too bad this happened. Is it under warranty? It may be that the amount of glue was not evenly distributed across the base of the bridge. It can be fixed but it will stay the lines somehow cracks at lower string area of the bridge. Let the factory know and they may replace for a new one.

Better yet, email one of or both of them and send a picture of it and ask why they think this happened.

It seems like out of the 50 or so FD14's built, a relatively high number of them, 3-5, have had this problem over the years. It's interesting.

Call the factory. They can make it right.....

That happened to my 1975 about 10 years ago only not quite as bad. Repair was done under warranty and you can't tell except that the bridge looks a bit new for a guitar that age.

I do recall Andrew said it had been 'home' once before. But I don't what was done to it then. Guess I can give him a call for details.

I'll email John the pics and see if they have an 'history' on it.

Just on a positive note, this is the first git that I have had 'give up' on me. Just too bad it was this one!

No, unfortunately not. The warranty only applies to the oririnal owner, which is (maybe) Andrew.

Kim and John already know about it, I'll bet. They don't post here much, but they're always here.

It's just another risk with Cedar. The glue held - almost too well. That's just something that happens inside the grain of the wood.

Mother will unbolt the neck and make a new Bowl/Top for you. Good time to specify what electronics you want.

Oh, Iffy ... poor baby! Don't you know you can't bring your guitar into the sauna with you? My condolences ... that's about as bad as my Honolulu Horror ..

Been pondering that... Knowing that a new top will not replicate the ol' mojo, I'm just not sure if I want upgrade the 'tronics at the same time.

I guess we could get into a discussion of 'tronics size vs. bowl volume reduction...

Willa,

Iffy, that's heartbreaking.

As everyone else has said, you need to send it to Kim for it to be repaired correctly but I hope you have others to play for a while.

I just requested a return authorization for a repair from him and was told to contact him again after the first of next year.

They no doubt still have more work than they can handle right now.

Iffy, I know you tell all of us to "wear it out" but that's taking your own advice to the extreme...
Call JB/KK tomorrow and they will take care of it... and get a new fave for the immediate future...and be gentle...sorry my friend...

And why exactly did the factory decide to stop using bridge bolts?
