Based on my "In The Door" picture series from summer 2008, here's my first look at my rebuilt "Book" Elite 1768 Customized LTD. Folks, this is one of the SINGLE nicest guitars to come out of New Hartford....BAR NONE! I still can't believe it's now sitting in my closet.

Standing in the door...


The new top to replace the one cracked in shipping and sporting a carved ebony bridge...


Here are the epaulettes close up and again, a little of the bridge showing...


Glossing the neck makes all the difference in the world...

Beautiful guitar. It's amazing, to my eyes, how much of a difference glossing the neck/headstock makes in the appearance of the guitar. I always thought the wood looked cheap and that Ovation, when they stopped glossing, had just gone to a cheaper wood. Seeing the before and after of several of Witko's guitars, I realized the part (appearance wise) that glossing makes....

Same pre-amp. I saw no reason to swap it out as I don't gig regularly anymore. (Haven't for a long time in fact.)

New top, new bowl, refinished neck....the thing is all but new I guess. It sure looks it! :D

I played it in church this morning, and it's everything you would expect it to be. A very nice instrument indeed! :cool:

As a related aside, I left three non-gloss necks at the factory while I was there. Guess what's gonna happen to'em? ;)

Location: SoCal		The Prof is right. Get the guitar out. I've got guitars around the house on stands and on the wall. My kids are now teenagers and we've always had dogs. Neighborhood kids come in and play my guitars.

Never had any damage to any guitar resulting from the above. If the guitars are locked in cases or in the closet (unless it's Witko's closet --- gotta see it to understand) they won't be played and enjoyed.....

Don't worry Professor. Some day they'll all have their place in a music room alongside the concert bass, the antique cello, the irish tin whistles, the bodhran, and whatever else wanders through my door in the meantime.
