Joined: March 2005 Posts: 5567 Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | Adamas I 1687-8 #119-86 arrived this evening after a journey from Vernal, Utah to Sw Va over the past four days. There is no wear on the frets, no damage (one very small chip on the binding), beautiful copper speckled back, just wow with a capital Wow! Case is mint, case cover is so clean...this guitar has spent a pampered life...I am blown away with this guitar. I cleaned it up after removing an old set of strings, repositioned the back cover, restrung with a new set of D'Addario EXP17's, tuned it up, played it for a few minutes and then got it outside so I could get a few pictures in the fading light. I will take better pic's when it's sunny. This guitar is worth the wait and everything else involved. Thanks to Willa for helping me secure the auction and to Jerald (the former owner) for the fantastic packaging and shipping (he wrapped the case cover w/two baby blankets to keep it from getting scuffed in shipping). I could go on and on about how mint this guitar is but I'll let a few pictures do the talking... Album is on my ning page: (first half are from the auction and prior to shipping to me: rest are this evening) 42nd Production Adamas Enjoy!

Will you send it to MS to repair the binding? Or is anyone gonna be able to pry it out of your hands anytime soon? Just don't eat supper with it in you lap..you might spill something on it...again a BIG CONGRATS..did you ever find out how it ended up in Utah? R.

And MM you are close behind (though behind CrimsonLake and Dobrov -- long story that doesn't need to detract from this fine moment!) Best to all of you! Alan

Of course now you're gonna have to trade me the 87' to console me. That beautiful Addamas just makes that ugly ole' 87 more ugly anyway. You don't want that 87 ugly'in up your pretty guitars do you? HA HA HA

The very earliest guitars did not have the inlays..somewhere between #125 (owned by Jerome) and #189 (also owned my me) the traditional dual triangle inlays we are framilar with became standard. This guitar has several other early features not found on later guitars as well: absence of wood markers or metal beads in front of the knobs; extreme glitter used in bowl back and on top...these guitars were often referred to as "Guitars of the Stars" back in the '70's because of the price tag ($2300 in '78 would be close to $7000 today) and the glitter which was applied to accentuate the stage lighting.
