You know, the words you thought you heard vs. the actual lyrics:

My two biggies:

1. Song Lyric: "Wishin' I were a fast freight train just a chooglin on down to New Orleans..." (Credence)
What I Though He Said: "Wishin I were a fast freak Pete . . . ."

2. "After the boys of summer have gone . . . " (Don Henley)
WITHS: "After the poison summer has gone . . ."

extra credit: For the longest time when I was a kid, I actually though there was a letter calle 'elemeno'.

"...that would be ecstasy, you and me and LSD" is what my mom and i heard and sang back in the 60's. should be, "...you and me endlessly" ("groovin'" by the rascals)

Ahhhh, I'm not the only one!

Donovan and 'Mellow Yellow": "that's right 'slick'". That was a pop phrase while I was in the Air Force at that time... I lost a bar bet on that one!

I won't even get into 'Louie, Louie'... It took over 12 years for me to let go of 'my ears' on that one! I remember standing around the Hi-Fi record player with my buds going "YEAH!"

BTW, I love this thread! Stand by for more of my aural 'bloopers'...

That's what I thought it was, too. I know there are bunches more, but I can't think of any now.

If your Mom was into the Rascals, !

Bing, Perry Como and Larence Welk was my Mom's genre giants. Later in her life Do Ho was a favorite. God rest her soul, but I never want to hear the word 'bubbles' again (nothin' personal lanaki )!

My wife continually reminds me of the one misheard lyric I have ever (as far as I know) uttered out loud and within earshot of another human.

What I heard:

"Here come the minutemen."

What it really says:

"Here come the men in black..." some Will Smith (I think) song.

My father was a gambler down in Georgia,
And he wound-up on the 'run in Oregon'... (actually "Wrong end of a Gun")

Had to read a Lyric sheet to learn that... But I heard the first version for years!

Another misheard one, which bizarrely enough works almost better than the correct one . . .
From 'City of New Orleans'

Correct: And the sons of pullman porters
And the sons of engineers
Ride their father's magic carpets made of STEEL
Mothers with their babes asleep,
Are rockin' to the gentle beat
And the rhythm of the rails is all they FEEL.

What I heard:
And the sons of pullman porters
And the sons of engineers
Ride their father's magic carpets made of STEAM
Mothers with their babes asleep,
Are rockin' to the gentle beat
And the rhythm of the rails is all they DREAM.

Not mine but my wife's ex-boss just loved the song:

"Paul Bummerson... don't want to be... Paul Bummerson... anymore..."

I believe it should be "all by myself..."

Whenever we hear the song, we have a good laugh.

How about CSN's "polish star"? (Police car?) Always wondered which ones were the Polich stars. Maybe the ones that go away after you rub your eyes. It's okay. I can say that. I'm of Polish decent. Wait, is Polish decent a joke?

Eman.

Maybe he just has bad diction....from another Steve Miller song;

"Touchin' down in New England town
Big money comin' down"
(correct: Feel the heat comin' down)
