Location: Orange County, California | I was burglarized over the weekend and lost my koa slothead and my 1763. Both in cases.
police report and insured, but still... I've had the classical half of my life. And i don't think the Koa could be replaced. I hope they try to pawn it. there is no way it would go unnoticed. |

Location: Orange County, California | The KOA is #4 S/N 613754. 12 fret. The 1763 has one "ding" in the face half way between the bridge and the binding towards the end pin on the treble side maybe 3" from the edge. It is an FRG too. S/N 459413

Location: New Hartford CT | Fred, I know what you're going through and there will be sleepless nights ahead. There are things you must do right away and the first one is a post on the OFC, check.
I was robbed and 2 Ovations, a Millenium and my late Dad's#698 shiny bowl DB, were stolen in Aug 2011. Through a combination of diligence and dumb luck both have been recovered. A simple post here ultimately led me right to them. If you do a search on Deluxe Balladeer the thread should still be up. A friend told me to put up a post here and one thing led to the next.
I hope by the time I write this you have already miraculously recovered your guitars. If not, here's what I learned.
1. Assume the police are computer illiterate in this area. Sorry, but that was the case in my situation. Conduct your own investigation using all the new technology available. Persistence is key.
2. Don't assume it's someone you know who knew the guitars were there. Keep an open mind about what may have happened.
3. Tell everyone you know about what happened and listen to their ideas. You never know where you may discover a keen insight.
4. Don't give up
Fred, best of luck and I sincerely hope you find your guitars especially the 1763 classical. Please keep us 'posted'. |

Location: Texas | Fred, You probably already know this, but there are a couple ways to search each day, in case the thieves try to turn them... Search Tempest is one of the search engines that hit craigslist and ebay http://www.searchtempest.com/ And Google can narrow searchs to 24 hr time frames. Pawn shops...uggg...but as a victim, they can be your friend, in that they bring the guitars to the surface, but it is impossible to monitor them and most pawn shops know when a special instrument comes in and have "buyers" for the nice stuff...that in turn sell it on the secondary market. My heart goes out to you...good luck in your recovery effort. |

Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | Fred, very sorry to hear about this and hope that they are recovered soon...I had all my stage equipment (except guitars which I kept in my hotel room) stolen in 1978 from a stage in Peoria Illinois...$8,000 in 1978 dollars...unfortunately, nothing was recovered...amps, PA, keyboards, effects, etc. Hopefully there will be a good ending to this...

Location: Utah | Do check the pawnshops yourself. A friend had her equipment stolen, including a custom electric violin which was very identifiable like your Koa. The police were useless in checking the logsheets which the pawnshops are required to file. Her boyfriend found her violin and a Fender amp a couple of months later at a local pawnshop. The police just don't make these kinds of crimes a priority. |

Most decent size PD's do have a couple guys assigned to pawn shops, some even have a division...but the trouble is, the volume of stolen items they have to look for. Bikes, guitars, stereos, tvs (do they still call them tv's?), guns, jewelry, coins, tools, silverware, etc....When you have 10-100+ burglaries a day, depending on where you live, pawnable items become insurmountable for the manpower assigned, in terms of the # of pawn shops + pawnable items and keeping track of what to look for. Some departments collect all pawn shop tickets each day. But it is still an overwhelming task for some entities to stay on top of. And you're right, the other side of the coin is, for what ever reason, be it resources or attitude or some departments think that most cases are covered by insurance and the victim will be made whole again,...unless they stumble across it, they do not actively look for it. |

I got a ticket last week for rolling thru two stop signs that were close together. I saw the cop after the second one. All I could think to say was "Why didn't you stop me at the first one I rolled thru?". He thought it was so funny he only gave me a warning for that one. Nice guy... I guess. |

This was the Salt Lake City police, and yes they do have serious crimes to investigate. In this case it was frustrating because my friend and her fiance went to the pawnshop and got all of the info which the seller had given, which here by law includes a drivers license. Turns out it was the drug dealing scum in a rental house across the street. But the dl was expired so the police totally brushed it off saying something about computer data bases. This would have been an easy bust which they ignored. It may well have been the philosophy she was insured and would get her equipment replaced. |

| After I'd quit bands (or so I thought at the time), all my band stuff was stolen from a storage bin. The insurance settlement was the down payment on my first house. Things sometimes work out. |
