How many of us would like to blame Dave Witko, aka; Tupperware, Standingovation, "Shut up Witko", et al, for leading them to purchase an instrument they would have never been tempted to try without his intense marketeering campaigns and "It's just a snapshot" gallery?

After you vote please make your confession.

I am in it for Ukulele and Folklore indulgances.

StandingOvation was bidding against me for an old beat up Josh White on ebay. Neither one of us got it. That led me to Ovation Galleries, which led to this. I have to confess that I haven't bought one of Dave's specific recommendations, except maybe the 1537. I really like those John Lennons, though, and the OFC guitar can be traced back to his blue Adamii that I played and photographed at his house.

Actually, I regard Dave's activities & contributions as educational. I found out I'm pretty gullible & dependent. Still a devotee of "free will", and willing to accept the outcomes of my choices. Generally, Dave has been promulgating good advice, though.

It's not his fault but he may blame me.

I probably wouldn't have considered buying a Uke if not for Dave's evangelizing.

And I don't know what I'm gonna do with all these extra string tubes!

Hey, I don't tell anyone what to do. I just tell you what I do ...

I actually don't remember what first caught my attention about ukuleles. I guess it was about 5 years ago and something just "struck" me. It wasn't the traditional values of the hawaiian ukulele but rather the whole "counter culture" that I started to uncover. Ukulele Freakshow, UOGB, Uke Sanity, Burning Man Uke, etc. Just some really freaky stuff mostly thanks to the power of the internet. I'm basically a clean cut button down kind of guy who works a dead end sales and marketing job. So the uke turned out to be my one small escape into something slightly left of center.

I'm also a little bit of an accumulator (not quite a collector), and ukes are small and cheap. You can pick up a wide ranging collection of 10 or so ukes for what you'll pay for one non-collectable guitar. It's just fun to gather them and then re-disperse them. Sort of like a bee spreading pollen.

Nothing Dave has done has made me interested in Ukes. Not interested much in Martins, either. Even though Dave does it, I haven't peed in my pool. Never bought any string tubes. I don't do everything that Dave does. I can only blame him for the Ovation fanaticism.

No, but that Standing Ovation guy -- now that's another story.

Actually there's only two of Dave's guitars i would like to own; that beat to S*!@ '62 white Telecaster and his 00-18 SH.

It's Cliff's fault. He let me play #54 at the very first OFC jam and I've been searching for the Holy Grail ever since.

Of course, things sort of compounded when CWK2 showed up at the Dowling clinic with about 20 cases, any and all of which contained guitars mere mortals only dream about. Hell, he even hooked Tuppy, who left Florida with something very special.

It 50/50 right now.

I have always admired Dave's collection of guitars.

The variety of styles has caused me to acquire some guitars just because they have a slightly different sound.

Dave has guitars?!

I thought he was strickly a Ukelele guy! I just gotta spend some time in the members gallery.

But I often pretend I have a life. Not here, I could never fool you guys....well, maybe Slipkid.
(I could do the Marx Brothers mirror routine with him and he'd never know.....)

Oh, meanwhile back on topic. Dave caused me to get back into ukes after a 40 year layoff. I had a baritone uke when I was 12. My mother got it when I said I wanted to learn guitar......yes, scarred for life.

C'mon Dave, don't give me that "I'm responsible for my own choices" crap. I'm an American dangit!

Hey, there's a nylon strung Papoose on Ebay...

Some of us are Canadian, so it's more a government responsibility. The problem is finding out if it's federal, provincial, or municipal jurisdiction....

Yes... I'll admit to the "lust" level ramping up after a few of "Tup's" rants.

I did enjoy telling him that "The Ship" could gloss a neck and I was having it done... I think he sent a few in for the make-over after my note.

Yes... If Tup likes it a lot. I listen.

Woz.

I haven't bought a Uke yet but I will. (SWMBO is letting me sleep at home for a while if I'm good...lol...I'm actually watching several now on ebay)..
Dave gives me a ragging now and again...he intensely dislikes Taylor’s: I have 4 among others...but, we share a love for Phoenix and fine guitars (abet Taylor’s) and I respect him a lot...his photography is tremendous and his collections are fantastic...and upon meeting him in CT last month, I am pleased to be able to call him a friend! Now there I've done it...gone and given him the "Big Head"...Thanks Dave for all you do and have done for the club, etc....
Blessings...

I'm sure Dave can handle the flattery, Mike. My wife paid him a very nice compliment about a year ago. She said he seemed like a nice guy. Under the circumstances--flying down to Phoenix with the Wooden Roundback, delivering it to Dave (one of the guys I met on the internet) and stopping at his house for an hour to try out some guitars, Dave driving me down to Casa Grande to visit my parents and then picking up another Ovation at a pawn shop for a friend--Dave probably seemed like the most normal part of the trip. She's right. He is a nice guy and he's only a little more obsessive than some of us.

It isn't just Tupp. There's a bunch here who are just as quick to point out the merits of owning something new and different, and God bless you all!

Yes Woz. After more than $2000. worth of neck glossings I realize that I never THANKED you. If you have any more cost effective words of advice just pass them my way ...

As far as the rest of you buttering me up with compliments, it ain't gonna work. You're all setting me up for something and I'm not about to let my guard down for a second. Go try some else.
