I've got about 250 - 300 albums mostly from the 70's - 90's stored in 4 high quality transport cases that I need to get rid of to make room in the closet. The cases were about 25.00 each themselves. Anyone interested, pm me and I can email a list of titles as there are too many to list here. I will let them go CHEAP as I don't have one of those...uh...oh yeah, turn tables anymore. I would ship them at actual cost, or if anyone is in the area, they can pick them up. I'll sell them by the case (about 70 in each) or all together.

My son called me at work a few weeks ago to ask if either of my 2 turntables still worked. I said yes, one still has a cartridge and... you're not gonna use it for scratching, are you? That's exactly why he wanted it. Jim, you can stick 'em on the free section of craigslist, and somebody will come and pick them up.

There is beautiful artwork that you could never fit on a CD cover, and wonderous bits of audio that will probably never be transfered to digital.

I really don't even know why they bother with anything more than the title and tracklist on a CD, as for most, that's all that is needed. I transferred all of my CD's to my Ipod, backed it all up on DVD, and I'm selling the CD's on ebay. There are a few "LP to CD" devices out there that are pretty cheap and make the process of transferring LP's to CD a piece of cake. They even have built in scratch removal and such to make it a pretty decent transfer. With the iPod (60GB) hooked up to the PC and audio to the stereo, I can scan, search and make playlists and listen faster than I could with albums or CD's and if I don't have something, I just go get it for a few pennies and it's still faster than if I had the LP or CD and had to go find it. Without the artwork, there really is not more reason to sit down with a few beers and just "rummage" through the discs. And now as a combination of age sets in, and them printing so much in a small space, you can't read half the contents on a CD insert anyway cause it's so small.

But I am spoiled by computer! I hardly listen to CD's anymore. I just load them into the computer, and I got good speakers. I use my radio to listen to NPR. But CD's did ruin a truly great Art form... Album Art.

About 3000 LPs, 45's, R2R stuff, lots of taped radio broadcast concerts and even just complete taped radio shows. It's very cool to to have that stuff archived and available on the computer or ipod. I'm also in the middle of transferring all VHS stuff to DVD, plus the old 8mm home tapes to DVD. Slow process but definately worth the effort. Dave

I'll give up cd's when the big companies stop making them. Which as I understand it, will be in about a year, if the news reports are right. When there's no choice, I'll fully move into the digital age. Actually, I still like making mix tapes. My 4 track recorder / mixer uses cassettes. I know, it's low tech and lo-fi, but it works.

Speaking of album art...I actually have one entire wall in my game room that I have album covers displayed. Looks very cool. I have tham set up so I can interchange them if I want to. I know, get a life...
