You need something capable of producing an acoustic guitars entire frequency range without distortion and low-powered tube amps ain't it. You need a dedicated acoustic amplifier or a full-range powered PA speaker plus a mixer.

That being said, for electric guitar I picked up a Fender Blues Junior. It is the perfect size for my needs. The 15 watts lets you get nice tone without making your ears bleed, but it still has ample power for a small band-practice setting. Unlike some of the other low end valve amps the Blues Junior has master volume and halfway decent reverb unit, that and a respectable 12 inch speaker.. So far I am please with it and highly recommend it, I think they are running about $399 at MF.

Do a search on the board and you will see where we had a pretty good thread going on it about 6-8 months ago. Templeman and Jeff W have the amp and I have the head. I am sure there are others. Another one (and my current fav) is the VOX DA5.

I've done some of the mods and they add a lot of gain, crunch, etc. It needs better tubes also. Even if you don't want to mess around with changing resistors/caps on the board, a new set of tubes will do a lot. Fron what I've read, a twin speaker cab, either 10's or 12's, is the way to go. The amp sure is cheap enough - $99 + $30 for the tubes (JJ's from eurotubes.com).

That Carr stuff looks like the ticket, but it's WAY out of my range...phil
