I don't need to rescue myself. the video speaks for itself AND if you bothered to read the comments under it others had similar things to say.

Using non-standardized abbreviations is actually pretty rude, but I'll bite...

HANA = 'He's A Neubee Asshole' (pretty easy that one, actually...)

NRSAY = got me on this one, will ponder on it...

As they say... "what comes round, goes round"... Might be some of the "goes round" part happening elsewhere, lol

I did read ALL the comments Al. I read them very carefully so as not to misconstrue what anyone was saying or implying.

NOR was I trying to speak for you. I know you are very articulate and can do that yourself. I was simply offering my take on why you might have allowed the thread to degenerate as far as it did.

I hope you also noticed that it wasn't a 100% slam-dunk with everyone simply agreeing with your position.

And let me be even MORE clear here... I don't necessary disagree with you on this!! I don't know enough about the company to presume anything and although you are obviously comfortable basing your position on what you saw in that video... I am not.

In the other video link provided, the shop looks pretty much like every other guitar shop I have been in... Maybe the selection of power tools is a bit slim, but they didn't really look particularly downtrodden to me.

Until I go over there and see for myself, I will reserve judgement and continue to believe EVERYONE is entitled to their opinion...

If you feel that anything I have said ANYWHERE is this thread is unreasonable, or biased or derogatory to ANYONE, please feel free to point it out.

When you tell me I am trying to impose US safety standards etc on these workers you are speaking for me and I take offense to that.

You started this thread in the for sale section. Yet you do not have the guitar for sale. So ultimately if you like the guitar and are interested in the bass buy one. Otherwise what is the need for the commercial?

you made a statement the guitars are made in canada. I found no evidence of that. All I can find is that they are designed by a certain luthier. Unless you have evidence of the contrary you are giving false information

Not everyone has to agree with me. I do not expect nor demand that. I have my opinion from the information provided me. From my vantage point in good conscience i could not buy nor play one of those instruments.

As a consumer I can spend my $$$ where I feel benefits me most. As a result bp exxon wallmart and a few others do not get my hard earned dollars if I can help it. My point and only point is that after seeing that video, the thought of owning one of those guitars is repulsive to me. Your mileage may vary since it is in kilometers.

I have been to many factories and worked in a few myself, Some had bad conditions, none looked like that.

I pointed out where you spoke for me, If anyone else has issues with your statements they can speak for themselves.

Overall I think with a few exceptions the discussion on this thread has been rather civil. As we become a world economy these types of issues will be coming up all the time. I feel you must let your heart and conscience be your guide.

Thanks Al,

You are 100% correct. These guitars are NOT made in Canada (I was misinformed) and this was clarified eloquently by War Eagle.

My intention was not to host an 'info-mercial' for these guitars and I (like many others here...) am still not decided whether I even like the design or not. I simply wanted to point out a level of carving and inlaying skill not seen on many other guitars. Can we all agree that these Balinese carvers are good at what they do? I would hope so...

As pointed out by several people, the build quality of the actual guitar itself doesn't appear to be that high (thank you Beal...). Without having tried one, there is no way I could know this... One of the reasons I appreciate having so many informed opinions in one forum. Thanks, to those of you that at least tried to review the guitar without getting personal.

I have promised the mods, that I will NOT in future bring any non-OVATION or unrelated items to the attention of this forum (fair enough?).

I would however, like clarification as to whether OVATION-made products for sale (but not for sale by myself...) are allowed. To my mind acting as a 'finder' for these sometimes rare items is a service and should be permissible...

Thanks

If it truly is "rare" or "unique" or "special", then yeah it's acceptable and appreciated. What's not appreciated are post after post after post - mostly from noobs - highlighting the latest CraigsList or eBay listing for yet another 1617 Legend or mid-'80s Balladeer. EVERYBODY knows how to use the Internet to search, and the only thing these types of posts do is push LEGITIMATE offers for sale or Wanted-to-Buy posts by MEMBERS down off the page, never to be seen again by potential respondents.

there is no issue with listing items for sale or bringing interesting items to the attention of the board.

Unfortunately this company is a hot button topic and people feel passionate about it. Post another brand and you may get 3 responses.

there is a guy in north jersey who is/was a mail man and was featured on "queer eye for the straight guy" He bought old beat up martins, guild, gibsons etc and did a similar sort of carving on the tops. I have seen several of his guitars and they are not exactly my thing. BUT the difference is that he is an artist doing original works on quality instruments.

I have played tons of guitars in my life, maybe more than the average person has played. I can tell you that you can use the finest woods and specifications but if it is not put together in the right way it is not quality. there are some exceptions sure.

As I see more and more of my friends lose their jobs and see long time US companies go overseas (the latest for me is the Penn fishing reel company) I cannot but be infuriated by seeing these carvers in sub par conditions building building guitars. In a perfect world I would love to see good quality student grade instruments made in the usa at affordable prices. I guess that ship has sailed

Thanks GR8,

Fair enough.

I think most people here would find it extremely hard to decide what is 'rare' or 'special' enough to take the risk of enraging the mods or the general population.

What is rare enough or special enough to one may be nothing at all, the higher you go up the 'food chain'.

I for one, will not be doing this anymore as it isn't worth the trouble...

If I see something 'special', I'll just buy it and send you a picture :D

I just took my Morgan Monroe outside, if we are discussing wood-boxes...
I feel nekkid when I cannot plug-it-in!

It came with EXP strings, but I don't know what size.

OMA, which Morgan Monroe do you have? The strings are 12's. I'd change them to Martins or SIT's. It'll sound even better.

MV-45 (see sig)... I was looking at the Blues 32 but I got outbid. The one I got has a solid top, open gears, and that primo case. The 45 is a broad shouldered dreadlock whereas the 32 has sloped shoulders. It is a nice little toy for $266! (new) And it is pretty loud. I just had a fit of GAS, y'know? And it's cute!

more pics on Ning...

Yeah, those are nice guitars. You got it for a very good price too. I love the cases. Nice to have a built-in hygrometer, but the best part is the soft leather handle. It doesn't dig into your hand when you're walking down the block with it. Enjoy!

Alison, that's an interesting comment about the soft leather handle.

To me, those always make the handle seem cheap and flimsy.
