Yeah, we have no clue how or when to end a song without one.

That's the #1 problem when going "unplugged".

Taken from Whateverhappenedto.net:

"This 16-year-old boy from Rabun County, Georgia was the only "authentic" local to play the role of The Banjo Boy in John Boorman's disturbing hit movie of 1972 Deliverance. Billy was hand-picked from his local elementary school largely due to his "look" ( Billy's large head, skinny body, odd-shaped eyes and moronic grin had sadly branded him a poster-child for inbreeding and mental deficiency).

The actual irony is that Billy was neither "retarded" nor even able to "fake" playing the banjo. "

Dueling Banjos He also had a small part in Tim Burton's FABULOUS movie entitled "Big Fish"

Imagine being the lucky kid in that school when you're the final choice for "looking the MOST retarded."
And we can't get our 15 yr old daughter out of the house when her hair's not laying perfectly straight.

Dark bar and Captain Lovehandles you guys have me cracking up over here! You both are SO funny! Nothing like a little belly laugh at four in the afternoon. It's really quite therapeutic!

I'm willing to bet that those posters are probably the closest he's ever gotten to a naked female!

I dunno.
I'm just sayin'.

Per Wikipedia:
In his famous scene, Redden plays the instrumental "Dueling Banjos" opposite actor Ronny Cox on guitar.
Redden could not actually play the banjo. A musician reached around from behind Redden which was disguised using careful camera angles.

LOL, Colin! Well, if you watch that link I included, he is walking across the porch as he plays (before he sits on the swing) ... I didn't think the technology was good enough at that time to pull off such a special effect, but I think Wikipedia is probably a better source than whateverhappenedto.com.

Who knows? If he WAS playing, you'd think Mr. Reddin would be giggin' somewhere instead of running a diner in Georgia, no? If he WAS it's kind of sad for him to not get recognized for it. And if he wasn't, it's weird that he's posing with his banjo ... anyway, to stay on topic (sort of), maybe he'll read this and show up at the G8r Bowl gatherin'! ;p

Even with a little practice every day since 1972, one could probably learn to play the banjo (if they wanted to!!! :)

Besides... conflicting stories is what makes it so interesting. (Yawn.)

I don't know if he was really playing banjo or not, but I do remember that the guitar (not the one you saw in the movie, but the one you HEARD) used to belong to Jim Ricard, one of the geniuses behind Ovation.

I just thought of this...

Definition of a banjo - A tamborine that stuck its neck out and got strung up.

.
C'mon, It's 5:40 in the morning!

I'll have my "beater" 1617 and my newly acquired Elite bass.

Just checked the weather forecast for next weekend at Casa G8R.

As it now stands the weather guessers say:
Chance for rain and scattered T-storms.
High Temps from upper 60s to lower 70s.

Maybe it would be easier to ask "what would ya like to play/try out" and see if anyone has one to bring.

At this point, I'd love to fondle the new 2010 Limited!

I had planned on bringing the 1680 and the Folklore. But I'll take requests...

Naw, the CA (not the Taylor). The Taylor is sold to Gulfcoast. Actually that clock is pretty cool. I picked it up on Ebay and the neck swings like a pendulum. Doesn't make any noise either.
