And I'm not too worried about you all looking too dangerous. Boring, maybe, at least before the beer.

State-dependent learning, i.e., I can't play anything diminished, unless I am. Or something less.....

Mark, it looks like we'll miss for sure on this trip. Bummer too, 'cause I was looking forward to trying out the Ute (like you said before, it's not the company I'm going for either :D ).

Now that I have my calendar correct, I should be all set. Still no word on exact date for my custom 12, but I'm still hoping. I will have a Tacoma Roadking dreadnought-style 6-string to bring along, just for kicks. After all, even in the OFC, if it's a Northwest get-together, a Tacoma should be welcome...right?

Oh, that reminds me! Will anyone be bringing a solidbody Viper? I think I want one of these, but of course...y'can't really know until you play it, right?

(Mark, you know I was just tweaking you...)

There may be at least one such evil plan to give solid body gas.

My intention is to bring 3 solids and only have to take 2 home...

Waiting for a beautiful mahogany Viper to show up from Uncle Stevie's Colorado Guitar Emporium and Celestial Manifestation Observation Station. Should be here Thursday.

Woody, was it you who had a twelve string you wanted an interesting trade for? How much beer is it worth? :D

(reinserted for Waskels sake)
So, are either of you easily distracted?

Shiny...

I am told that what I have has letters and there is medication for it but I prefer to just enjoy it.

Mark will be okay....he just noted your objection and reverted to attorney mode, filing his counter-claim and oral arguments establishing the precedance whereby his alibi was originally set forth heretofor and forthwith yadda yadda, to set up for a motion for dismissal without prejudice...or something like that... :D

I wouldn't mind trying a Viper, too, although I have very little use for another electric guitar.

Ok:
I did a bit of research and here it is:

For a funky, hip place to stay at reasonable rates: it's the Jupiter Hotel. Be sure to request a room in the "quiet zone", there is a hipster bar (Doug Fir) associated with it that goes until the wee hours. It is on Burnside - East Side and about 5-10 mins from the Gathering.

Here is a listing of fabric shops. However one of the best, so i'm told, The Whole Nine Yards, is no longer at the location listed. It is instead now on Burnside East Side too. About a half a mile away from the Jupiter Hotel.

OK then, i hope that is useful.

I've heard good things about the Jupiter, though I don't get down on East Burnside much. Supposed to be a very cool renovation. That part of town has changed a lot since my high school days.

That's pretty good list, Greg. The ladies out to be able to lay out a route to hit most of them without getting lost.

Unfortunately, the Jupiter appears to be fully booked for the week surrounding the gathering. Any other ideas?

Drat! That was the recommended spot -- should of guessed it was booked.

Well, Here is a B&B finder type of deal. Not sure how comprehensive it is, but it is a start. (i recall you specified B&B as well)

Gh1, you're not far from downtown, right? Or the Rose Quarter? Seems like anything downtown or near the convention center/Lloyd Center wouldn't be more than about 10 minutes away.

Yep -- about a mile or two from the Downtown/Rose Quarter area. Like you said, any "corporate" hotel in the area is close. Availability depends on the convention(s) going on at the time. I guess i recalled the request for kind of "off the beaten path" accomodations.

Anyway -- carry on!

I'm coming from a third world country...according to some sources. We're not actually accustomed to our dollar being anywhere near par with greenbacks. (at least not since I was travelling Europe in the 70's)

I'm a bit of a connoisseur of 'no star' hotels. Small old family run places. Where they know they're number two but try to smell like number one.

After all, it's just a place to sleep and odds are I may be drunk by the time I get there.

I don't do that no more. Every time I pass out in the car I wake up in the trunk.

How my tiny little wife does that, I'll never know. And getting the back wheels in the lake like that..

Uggh, I hate recommending places that I haven't been or stayed... here's what google maps has to say about it:

hotels/motels near Gh1\'s neighborhood

I would shoot for the Shilo Inn at the convention center (labelled I) or the La Quinta, also near the convention center (labelled M) or the nearby lowball Econo Lodge (labelled Q on the 2nd page)

All of those are less than $100 a night and not far from the shindig. There are cheaper hotels but they are mostly closer to the airport.

There's also a Days Inn in downtown Portland near PSU.. cheap, but it's a bed and a shower.

Anywhere in the downtown I-405/I-5 "loop" would be relatively close to the party, as well as hotels near the I-5/I-84 interchange (Convention Center/Lloyd Center)

Waskel, what's that hotel right there at the "end" of NW 23rd right near the freeway onramp?
