Interesting WeaserP , I work for a distributor of PPG products & in the 80s-90s they use to be the top sponser of the Indy car racing circut. Paul was 1/2 owner of the Indy car Newman Haus racing team .About the Paul Newman thing is he was always like that when he was racing. My girlfreind was a huge fan of his so whenever we went down to any of the races we always had preffered passes to get into any area of the racetrack and the one thing that we were told was if you meet Paul Newman do not ask him about anything but racing or he will totaly ignore you or get you thrown out of his area .He is well known for becoming very stand offish to the public when he is at a racetrack .He supports his claim that all of his time would be spent signing autographs & talking to people about his movie star status .We did get to see him a couple of times but I wasn't about to approach him just for the reason that you stated. Yeah, I can buy that if you're in the throws of a big race. Bottom line is it's big money. Again, I grew up around it so we had a fairly good idea of what an ok time to approach someone was vs. a lousy tme and based on others that dad introduced me to, he was a pretty good judge of that.

Given my experience, anyone who would treat a guy like that, especially in front of his kid, is a jerk and always will be. Just one opinion though.

I took a leak next to Val Kilmer at the "Crown Room" (Delta Airlines VIP lounge) in Salt Lake City once.

He's taller than you'd think.

I sold security systems to Leonard Nimoy, Joe Satriani, and James Hetfield. Nimoy and Satriani were great, Hetfield and his girlfriend sensed that I wasn't as impressed as they thought I should be to be in their presence.

Tom Jones once made an appearance at a local tavern in Biloxi, MS. after a concert at the Gulf Coast Coliseum. You couldn't get close (not that I wanted to) with all the females surrounding him until one of his entourage hollered out "PLEASE, DON'T SQUEEZE THE CHARMIN"! :D

Had a short converstion with Leslie Nielsen at the same place another night. Truly a funny guy.

I met Joe Satriani at a signing so I don't think that really counts. But he did spell my name correct without asking. I was extremely nervous, like.... "What if I sprain his hand when I shake it?!"

I got to shake hands with Carlos Montoya after a concert at Clowes Hall in Indianapolis once. It was like shaking hands with a dead fish. Of course he HAD just finished a 1-1/2 hr concert so maybe his hand was tired?

I was playing in the Vinny golf tournament in Nashville. Our fivesome had the celibrity Randy Owens, singer from Abalama. The other three were fat corporatelookin types. Randy had just shaved off his beard and I still had mine. All day long the people would come up to the group, check us out and then come to me and ask for an autograph. Randy just about pissed himself laughing. By the back nine people would approach him and he'd send them over to me and sit back and laugh. The last few holes there was this small group of girls following us on every shot. When it was over they approached and asked if I would sign their program book. I said OK and turned to the Ovation Ad page and signed Bill Kaman. They said thanks and I could hear them when we were about 30 feet away "But his name's BEAL !?!" Randy and I were laughing so hard, glad we were in the cart so we wouldn't have fallen down.

The FrenchToast was made with a multi-grain bread that had a lotta' nuts & twigs & stuff like that in it . . .
I guess that's what made it really, really good . . .

Fed the leftover crumbs to Sam Waterson's guinea hens . . . . but I guess that doesn't count either . . .

Shame on you, Bill. Making Cliff french toast out of your old Llama Chow just cause you're too cheap to throw it away...

Yes it was, 1000% Vermont Maple surple, taken only from the left side of the left leaning trees. (There's alot of that going on up there)There was the greatest bacon too but Cliff can't tell you about that.

Cliff, Sam sends his regards by the way.

Then there was the time at the Frankfort music show when John Entwhistle and I killed several Martins, Remy Martins that is. It was a great time but I can't tell you how it ended.

Back in the 80's I met Glen Campbell after a show at Gusman Hall in Miami. He had a beard back then. Also met his guitarist Jeff Dayton...

Unless I have actual business with a celebrity (like opening for them) I pretend not to recognise them. As much as they claim to hate the limelight, being ignored drives them nuts.

Last year, I was at a wedding out on Long Island.

I'm walking thru the lobby of the banquet hall, and I see Jerry Stiller there standing by himself wearing a tux and a RedSox cap. I shook his hand, told him I'd been a big fan of his for many years, and that Festivus was my favorite holiday. He got a big laugh and was very gracious (tho he couldn't hear too well).

As I turn and walk away from him, Ben Stiller (whom I can't stand) is walking in, pulling off his rain coat. We make eye-contact, and he gets that "oh shit, he's recognized me" look on his face.
I walked up to him and say "Hey! Check it out! that's Jerry Stiller over there!!" and walk away.
Totally rattled 'im.

I was in the departure lounge at the airport in Vegas when I ran into Don Cherry. I told him that he was my son's favorite and that he watches Coaches Corner all the time.

Don was a real gentleman and asked alot of questions. At that time, my son was spending alot of time at Sick Kids hospital. When Don heard about it he grabbed my cell phone, took a picture of the two of us and then preceded to call my boy up to say hi and wrote him a lovely note - signed by Don and his dog Blue!

A truly wonderful man and a great Canadian!!
