"I love the people there, but they're easy to impress, guitar-wise. "

Try and book me a tour while you're there. They sound like my kind of audience.

I'm surprised you haven't been there. I understand Uganda is a popular travel destination for Brits.
It really is beautiful.

I'm thinking 1115. From the description, the pickup in it was added, and I don't see any knob above the neck.
Hmmm. Electronic upgrade potential?

Never mind, just re-read the description. The cracks are through the wood.

Ok, I was 80% correct.

A 1615 is a good candidate to take with you Waskel! Outstanding sound. It would definately be covered in finish cracks so try to pick one up in the $250 range and have Mother refinish the top upon your return.

I never feel particularly drawn to places with snakes and no breweries. Call me old fashioned.

Surely the guitar you want is a resonator - the all steel variety. Think Mark Knopfler "Romeo and Juliet." They double up as weapons when the lions get hungry.....

Sounds like these cracks go a little deeper than the finish, though...

". . Think Mark Knopfler "Romeo and Juliet." . . ."

Speaking of which:
I just saw Mr. K. perform for the first time last week. F@cking BRILLIANT!! The notes just seem to effortlessly DRIP from the guy! His voice got a bit lost in the wash of drums and dual keyboardists on some of the louder numbers (he never had an overtly "dynamic" voice to begin with), but when they pared-down to just a small trap kit and some acoustics, it was GREAT!! The National featured prominantly in the "acoustic" stuff . . . especially "R&J" . . .

Like all great guitar players he plays with his fingers, not a pick..........

Vocally he reminds me of Dylan - neither of 'em can sing worth a sh**, but they write perfect songs for their own voices and the results are brilliant.
Glad you enjoyed it.

Waskel,
If you want a Pacemaker with finish cracks, there's one in a pawn shop in Lewiston Idaho. I think it was around $100. I could probably track it down for you if you are interested. I saw it in the window and rushed in, but put it back down when I saw about 4 finish cracks from the bridge to the base.

Last I heard, Mother can pull the neck and bridge, sand down the top on a big-honkin sanding wheel, spray a new clear coat and reassemble at around $350.

Use it and give it a resurrection when you return.
This would give you a fantastic new guitar that shouldn't crack, will have a reset neck and has a history about it.

I would also suggest you use the Elixers.

Thanks anyway, Mark. And thanks for the info, Mike.
I'm not particularly looking for a Pacemaker, a 6 string would probably be easier to deal with in the conditions there. I just thought it might be a good deal for the money, but the top cracks scared me off.

Keep up the suggestions, everything help. I'll keep looking.

Negatory on that. Launch has been scrubbed. Repeat, launch has been scrubbed.

Hope it wasn't too far of a drive.

we were actually pulling up on our watch spot on the Indian River when we heard it(scrubbed) on the radio. only a 28 mile drive up one rd(US 1)which is right in front of my house.. so no biggie. stopped and had a Margarita and some grilled shrimp on the way back.

had Brett go over the Ultra today gave it a fresh set-up, battery and new elixir's brought it back home and currently strapped in and being played,

Shannon and my son Glenn went over to a big show in Orlando today @ Tinker field(30+ bands) don't expect them home till late and Shannon made it out w my camera so will have to upload the others to you tomorrow.

God Bless,

Glenn

Hey Waskel,
If you haven't already struck up a deal with Glenn and your still looking this is on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7337063837&categ...

of course Glenns Ultra looks like a better deal for you. All depends on what your looking for.

Waskel hasn't pulled the trigger yet and there's a lot of nice pickin's out there right now. I'd Love to get that CL Acoustic cracks and all but just not feasible financially right now.

I just wanted to get him a nice/durable guitar for the mission.. plus the ability to plug in, and no worrys about either leaving it, losing it, or having it misappropriated at the airport.

Thought this one fit the bill pretty nicely.. and if he left it with someone there would hold up to some heavy (tho unintentional) abuse and love.

God Bless,

Glenn

I think maybe my wife wrote that article under a pseudonym.
