Iffy - DEFINITELY send it to the MS! The same thing happened to my '05 and they fixed it like new. Yours is a bit worse off than mine was, but they should be able to fix it.

Thanx to all for the help and assurances. I sent JB an email with the pics.

Now I'm wondering if a FUD Burst is a possibility...

:( Man, that's terrible Iffy... What a shock it must have been. I hope everything will turn out into a happy ending for you and the Fud :(

I am wondering if I should lower the stringtension on mine as long as it's resting in the case.

That makes a second time for that FUD, it was originally DaveO's and if memory serves, the original bridge came off right after it was made. The MS put an oversize bridge on it last time.

I'm not buying the sauna theory, she spent 2 years in Hawaii at better than 80% humidity and two summers in Virginia.

Did you put heaver strings on it than the Elixir mediums that were on it?

Iffy, that is terrible! I have seen the work that the MS does, and you can be sure it would look great after you've sent it there. Of course, you probably know that already!

If the doctors could fix your ankle, the mothership can fix this, with way less pain and hassle. Good luck my friend.

When I had my FUD rebuilt, John said that burst does not work well with the cedar top or I would have had it done. As far as the mojo, mine sounded fantastic from day 1.

Yikes, that's awful! At least you weren't there to hear that sickening sound when it went "sproing." Good luck, Mother will make it feel all better…

Tim,

I had put on a new set of Elixir meds just prior to the SSSJ. I'm pretty sure it had lights on it when I adopted it. The meds really sound great on the FUD.

Jack,

Thanx! That's very reassuring.

Meuti,

Apparently my FUD has had issues all along. A new top should take care of that.

So, just keep yours in normal tuning, enjoy and forget you saw this post!

It's just a flesh wound. :D

Sorry Iffy, I couldn't resist. I guess I'm one of those people who cover their sadness with humor. But I AM heartbroken for you. I know how that feels, after having lost my Gibson all those years ago. It still hurts! But at least with yours you know you can get it fixed up better than new. I hope the nightmares subside very soon and you're back to feeling good again.

That's an odd concept. Wouldn't the FUD sound better when you are on meds?

Good luck on the repair. I can't even imagine the heartbreak I would have if something like that happened to one of my favs.

As was said before, the factory will just remove the neck and attach it to a new body and top much like the FD/1614 that I sent back. Just a stupid question though, did you put the ToneRite on that one Johnny? Do you think.....?

Ditto Woody +1

This is the true risk with cedar. A few builders (notably Lowden) seem to have exceptional luck and skill with cedar tops but most small builders have gotten away from cedar tops due to warranty issues.
