As a single Dad for the past 17 years I seemed to attract the ones that needed mending before flying off again, but really love shouldn't be about clipping wings but setting free. It's a big world out there. Now with my son in college I actually have more time to look around but when things seem far between I hum the bluegrass tune "There's more pretty girls than one." I 'd stay away from the Bad Girl Gas though, because it will use money you could spend on guitars.

Plus there is a back seat in the SUV if you ever decide to change your gas attack to Bad (Girl Acquisition Syndrome) GAS!

And in an SUV, you can fold down the back seats, and have a full length space for being naughty, and/or star gazing with Beth!!!

Nope, I would never call you *selfish* you care about what she thinks, ergo, not selfish! Keep your pair, there are enough willing to give theirs up, the real men need to keep them! (and that is far enough past my comfort zone on that subject...)

Could you take out the loan for the SUV, and get a little extra for a new Ovation??? The interest on a car loan is much lower than a CC rate. If you need to see a "Babe" in a hot, sporty car, rent "Vacation" and watch Christy Brinkley, I have never seen it, but I hear she is really hot in it! LOL!!! In real life, a 2 door really sucks for doing groceries, or if you have children or pets... they look sporty, but Oh! So impractical for doing the practical everyday things.

I think it is really nice that you are thinking of her too LOF, you are not selfish, you just have a bad GAS attack, and I no stranger to that mentally debilitating ailment! It can make you do incredibly stupid things, and justify them with micro-thin, flimsy logic, and still be very happy, and proud of yourself for coming up with ANY justification for it! LOL!!!

Best of Luck on your decisions, I hope that you have taken the very drastic one off the table! Believe me, you don't want to be a female, we get blamed for every evil that has befallen man since Adam & Eve.

An SUV is slightly less useful, but more rugged than a minivan. Don't kid yourself about the safety, Nancy. Bigger isn't necessarily safer. There's nothing scarier to me than a tailgating woman in an SUV talking on a cell phone.

Mine was being in my tiny little car, and seeing a loaded Semi coming towards me, fast - it almost always felt like it was going to flip me over, or blow my car off the road, especially in the winter. And tailgating guys in their pick up trucks always blinded you at night (any tailgater for that matter really) scares the begeebers out of me.

I do feel safer up higher in my SUV than that teeny-tiny car. Although, I do miss the cornering on that low little bugger! But I am much safer now, because with the SUV I feel very unstable trying to corner too fast, and in the little car, it was always my "little race car, and the road was a course to beat", so I have slowed down significantly.

Now that this has drifted to automobiles....

Maybe it is because I think like a tramp...
But when buying a car I always think "Can I Sleep In It?"

Get an SUV or a Mini van... whichever.
So long as the back seat folds down and you can lie-down.
Therefore, a RAV4 is not what I am thinking of.

Oops, my response to Nancy makes less sense now that she edited. So Arthur doesn't chide me I'll tell a funny office story that explains why I like Eve.

In our modern software company, E Den, are 2 interns, we'll call them Adman and Even, The use the corporate software to do their office chores but the CEO won't let anyone access the code to write their own programs. Even found this annoying because she liked to think for herself and come up with creative solutions.

One day Even's computer encountered a worm virus that delivered to her the software code. She showed her buddy Adman during their lunch break and he said, "Wow this is neat! Do you know how much time we could save if we made a few changes?" Even replied, "The shocking thing is the worm virus showed the code isn't copyrighted or patented. "

The CEO walking by heard their chatter and said, "Hold it you two, here it is my way or the highway. Because you can code you'll have to leave because I can no longer trust that you won't mess up the corporate software. Your life in E Den was set with catered lunches, a climbing wall and great health plans, Good luck on your own."

So Adman and Even began a start up. At times things were hard and they had to live with the consequences of their mistakes but their product caught on and their users multiplied. More than once the CEO was heard to say, "Someday I'd really like to get Even."

Right with ya, OMA. The first big record I had as a songwriter... I bought a new minivan. Had a mentor that advised me to do that. "You'll always have somewhere to live."

It is possible to reach a point where there are so many guitars (and amps and neon signs) that new additions go completely unnoticed. I just tell SWMBO that the damn things are now breeding.

I thought about bringing this sort of back on topic by digging up the pictures of Ovation cases lined up in the back of SWMBO's Pilot or in the car top carrier on top of her Porsche, but I was too lazy, so use your imagination.

Ok, to bring it back on topic, LOF is your Wife a "yes" person, or a "no" person - when you ask her a question, or ask her to do something, does she typically say, "yes" or "no"??

I took a Class at work that taught us to deal with "No" people. (I don't believe it was supposed to teach us about training our Bosses, but the process adapted very well on them!) If they like to say No, you can still get what you want, and they still get to say No, and everyone gets what they want! Simple Question Re-Structuring!!!

My Boss was a No person, first thing out of his mouth was always No!, so I learned to ask for what I wanted, in a way that he could still say No, and I would get what I wanted! e.g. Instead of saying, "Bill, can I leave 15 minutes early today?" to which he would reply, "No", I would say; "Bill, would you have a problem with me leaving 15 minutes early today?" He would automatically say "No". I got to leave 15 minutes early, and he got to say No. Once I had that figured out, I used it very successfully for years, and we both got what we wanted!

Rethink the way you ask the question, to get the results you want.

I'm sure mine would prefer it if I didn't ask, so she could just roll her eyes and give me "the look" and then tell all our friends who don't play guitar or aren't interested in music how I have 17 guitars made by the same company. (She usually estimates on the low side, so I don't correct her.) That's what I think she prefers, anyway. I've never asked. I think she secretly enjoys my guitar room.
We've talked about having separate accounts like the Professor does, but that involved too much work for me and she was robbing "her" account to pay for "our" stuff, so she closed her account. Everyone needs to find out what works for them. Our method will have been working for 40 years next year, so it's not likely to change.

You just have a yours account a my account and an ours account. Household stuff comes out of our account. Your guitars come out of your account and it is no one else's business. Works great for us.

We've discussed the "how to" and I'm reminded of the "how not to" story..

Do not, put yourself in a position of driving home with your spouse/sig other etc... and pull into the driveway when there are 11 guitar boxes sitting on the porch. I don't know how I didn't know they would all show up that day.... I don't know why it was MY idea to come home for lunch. Just don't do it that way is all I'm saying. I honestly don't remember her words, but mine were something like "aba ah da ba ahhh" followed by mumbling.

The worst I ever did was 2 in a day. I was dealing with a guy in Iowa about a Custom Balladeer listed on this site when I ran across my Classic in a music store where our daughter was going to school. We were driving back to our daughter's house with the Classic when my father in law called from Iowa to tell me this guy was at his house with this Ovation. SWMBO was asking, "why is my dad calling you? Why are you talking about guitars?" The idea was that he would bring the guitar out later when they came to visit. That plan changed, so he took it to a UPS store and had them box and ship it. That cost about another $100. I'm not good at sneaky. I'm learning a little Spanish guitar on the Classic now and loving it. It was worth it.

I had to try to sneak a gun in for an Christmas present for mine, I had paid for it over several months, then we went into the store (we went there about twice a month), and while he made his patterned route (I had studied it carefully, he was so predictable), I picked up the gun (with the help of the Store Owner, she was in on it, and having a blast!), and had to sneak it out back door, down a glare ice hill, bent over, so that he would not see me out the windows, and get it into the truck, which I had to go back to because I forgot my checkbook (is what I told him to get the keys), then hide it behind the seat and cover it up, get back into the store and not act excited all the way home. When we got home, I told him that I thought the barn lights were on, and while he went out to check, I snuck the gun in the house and under the Tree! When he came in, I told him I thought someone had been in our house (he went into immediate panic mode! Hilarious!), then I pointed under the Tree! LOL!!!

Stealth Mode is fun! I like giving Surprises! He had been so bummed when we went back before and that gun he just loved was gone, so he was really surprised when he opened the box and saw it there! He named it "Woody", he really loved that gun! LOL!!!
