I'll second that too Matt.
So many great acoustic players, it's just that they're not pop stars.

Saw a special with Roy Clark a long time ago (yeah, always been a fan and catch him on the tube when I can) and he was asked who his favorite player was and his response was along the lines of "All the guys you can mention, Chet, Jerry, Glenn, are great but if you ever go up in the hills, you'll find that some truly great players never even make it off the front porch."

That always gave me focus that you really didn't have to sell a million records to be pretty damn good. I've always told my friends and family that I'm the best player to ever grace my bedroom and will be until I'm gone (and I tell my wife it better stay that way too!).

"Little Martha" - Duane Allman & Dicky Betts (once read an interview with Duane and he said that Jimi Hendrix came to him in a dream and gave him the melody)....Leo Kottke said that this was the best acoustic guitar instrumental ever written.

You are right. Little Martha is a masterpiece. If you have not hear Jerry Douglas cover it yet, it will be a treat. It was the first cut on his recent Lookout for Hope album.

Hello,

Wow! That is a tough question. There are many great accoustic tunes that are as good as one another. So to me, it has to have some more than just a great song. It has to have that special something that makes it in a league of its own. So i have to go with:

- John Lennon - "Watching The Wheels" - To me, not only it is one the best accoustic song ever written, but you got Lennon performing it. You just can't beat that, again my opinion. I don't want to offend anyone.

Thank you very much

Ced

Whiskey Someting or other song by Alison Krauss and Brad Paisley raises some hairs. on the back of my neck, when I see the video, on CMT

The ones that come to mind that "opened my ears" to acoustic guitar tracks include:

Norwegian Wood -- The Beatles
Hey Gyp (Dig the Slowness) -- Donovan
Only You Know and I Know -- Dave Mason
Amie -- Pure Prairie League
Cruel to be Kind -- Nick Lowe
Runaway Train -- Soul Asylum

The early ones initiated me, and the later ones made me want to go learn something new.

Yes I got it, thanks. Did you catch the interview/performance on NPR's All Things Considered? He did "Let it Blow" on there:

Shesshhh Jeff, don't sprain your arm patting yourself on the back :D . It is obvious you are a master of good taste (at least when it comes to music! ;) )

Lotta good songs mentioned in this thread.....and a lot I have never heard. Wish there was an easy way to hear them all.

I wouldn't call any of them my favorite acoustic songs (yet), but here of late the 2 acoustic CDs that have been getting the most play time in my car are of a certain OFC member's daughter.
