I love PORTLAND... one of my favourite American cities!!

Austin is also beautiful (and very forward thinking...).

Very good recycling practices in Austin (and Portland, I am told).

There you go... misunderstood again!!

with all due respect DO NOT SPEAK for me I am very capable of doing it myself.

If asking for people to be treated fairly and with some sort of dignity and respect is imposing "us systems of safety regulations" then so be it.

I don't like seat belts yet I am by law forced to wear one. does it save lives sure, does my medical insurance go down because I wear one no.

We can't dump oil from our motor out onto the street without a fine either. but if it leaks out it is ok.

I did not speculate the workers were paid substandard wages for their local wage. show me exactly where I said that? Or that I said the company was not sharing profits etc.

As for the workers preferring to work barefoot on the floor etc. I hope the next time you get a cheese burger the cook prefers NOT to wash his hands after he dropped a deuce. [/QB]

I really wasn't speaking for you, but merely asked you what you would do.

Right, you did not make the speculation about wages or company profits. I believe someone else made that point.

Now, regarding your comment about the cheeseburger and the "deuce," are we now equating food health safety (for the public at large) with occupational safety (for the worker)? Not the same thing. One protects the general public from the actions of an employee of a company providing a service. The other protects the employee from.......himself.

In Portland there is a little anti-corporate protest every other day.
Sad... just sad.
And just when I think it can't get worse...
Then we protest the Police, or the WTO, or for Pot, or just have a free concert in the square!
A bunch of citizens who protest... every other day.
Makes sense. Wouldn't want to have to commit two days in a row to something. If they end up leaving to much time between protests they might have to go out and find a job or something.
And it seems like they draw something out of a hat to determine the "cause of the day". Is that the new term for "choosing your battles"?

Can I vote for this thread to be closed?*

It seems to be breaching the "no politics" rule.

(*Yes I am fully aware of the irony that that is a political statement)

So anyway, I've been playing quite a bit on an Adamas and an Elite today. When I get home tonight I'll get out my beloved 2077LX and play that. And then I'll play another Adamas. I sure am having fun with all of these fine guitars.

So, not to change the subject, but what kind of strings do you think I should be using?

I second TAKFAR's motion (isn't that even MORE ironic..., lol).

I also think the originator of this thread should be made to sit in the corner in a pointy hat until he learns some manners (bloody anarchists!!).

Don't know where the workers would be... but the jobs might be here instead of overseas...

They also clog up the traffic downtown and generally annoy and inconvenience everyone in the area.
Wonder why they're not at work? Oh, yeah...
We also have a lovely group of anarchists who ride their bikes through downtown at 5pm specifically to cause problems. Our last mayor rode with them... Yeah, it's a great town. "Havana on the Willamette".

Kinda knew that was coming.

but,... If people have a rant or information pertaining to guitars, lets post it in the general section and leave the "for sale" section for the members that actually have something for sale.

personal hygiene protects you both from yourself and the public.

I dunno drop a sharp chisel on a bare foot and I guess you are out of work for a while. walk home barefoot get it infected.

bring back the industrial revolution when we had adults working 12 hour days 6 days a week and kids working along side them for 1/3 wages.

but I want my cheap carved up git fiddle

And just when you thought it couldn't get any worse...

I am trying to follow this debate, but I got lost at the line, "... after he dropped a deuce...". Is this an inherently American expression for some type of bodily function (wee wees perhaps?).

I have never heard this before... Can it be translated into Canadian?

(NO AL... Drop the cleaver.... back away from it slowly, lol)

I'm guessing that "deuce" = "two" = "Number twos" which means its the other option from wee wees. It doesn't translate well into Australian either. Over here it would be "Strangled a darkie", "dropped a bomb", "cracked a turd", or anyone of about 100 charming expressions.

Has anyone noticed the almost surrealistic air this thread has taken on?

It started out about Balinese carving... meandered into labour exploitation... reminiscing about dear old dad... lefties on bikes... a discussion about multi-cultural pooping...

All we need now is Terry Gilliam to animate the transitions and we have a Monty Python episode!!

I think I finally understand... There is order inside the chaos :D
