Sometimes I wonder if it didn't mark the departure point between the "modern" and the "traditional" OFC. At the time it was a personal observation / opinion that "we" had grown to the point where perhaps a little moderation was in order. At that time the pendulum was swinging in one direction and like they tend to do, they can swing the other way. Geez, is someone going to have to bring out the Slipkid Manifesto again? I won't quote Dave's "Ole Pub" post but go back & give it second read. Same goes for Moodys. Especially the part about being "sensitive". Polarization... It's running rampant. The level of it in the world is worrysome. Dispite what you might get from the manifesto, I think that well placed curse word can be a thing of beauty and artisic expression. Some members here have the knack to be able to curse yet know where to stop before crossing over into "crude". Personally, I don't have the talent for it so I don't try. I don't get bent out shape when it happens. > When I was 16 I went to see my doctor... his name was "Goldman". He himself was sick as a dog that day and I'm sure he did not want to be there. As it was a few days away, I wished him a Merry Christmas. I'm sure he passed the same remark off dozens of time before but this time he decided to stand his ground. He told me he was Jewish and did not celebrate Christmas. So I told him, "Well then... Happy Hanukkah". In an instant the man's expression changed. Pardon the expression, but he lit up like a Christmas tree. He smiled, thanked me, then wished ME a Merry Christmas. This incident shaped my view on religon as much as any time I ever spent in a church. Here we have the full spectrum of believers and non-believers. Now if you are going to marry my son I might have an opinion but for the level of friendship we can have here on an internet forum.... I DON'T CARE!! The folks here that I concider friends have exhibited a level of basic human qualitys that makes the issue of how they got them a moot point. I don't care how you have obtained or maintain your moral compass... just as long as you have one. The only religon I have a problem with is the ones that want to kill me. I hate those fuckers. Lastly... I love that pic of Matt swinging the Estaban. I hadn't seen it before.

Originally posted by Slipkid: That sentiment is just SO wrong. The only religion I have a problem with is the ones that want to kill me. I hate those f***ers. It's not the religion that's trying to kill you (AND me... AND Schroeder) OR the faithful practitioners of that faith. It's the fanatical f***wits that use their religion as an excuse to mindlessly and heartlessly kill thousands of innocent people. The VAST majority of the people you refer to hate the senselessness of terrorism as much as you do. And millions of them have to live with it (and survive it) every day of their lives. Don't condemn ALL muslims because of a fanatical minority. (An unfortunately LARGE minority) I still luv ya Brad. And no, I'm not a Muslim. I just find it interesting that the occasional mention of God here or patriotism (I haven't seen much of either, but then again I haven't read all posts) for that matter gets some people's knickers in a twist, but swearing doesn't. Just my observation, of course. Michelle

Michelle Conversely, right now, all over the world human lives are being wasted in the name of patriotism and various gods and personaly I am interested in neither, other than to be constantly amazed and abhorred by the destuctiveness both are capable of engendering. There are countless websites where subjects such as patriotism, politics and religion may be discussed and I participate in a few. Many OFC'ers, including myself appreciate this site because it is not supposed to be one of them. It's supposed to be about Ovation guitars specifically and music generally. With or without an occasional harmless expletive. Just my observation of course.

I don't use them because they are ugly (to me anyways) and the world doesn't need me to add to the ugliness, IMHO. I've been trying to ignore those words lately, but am having a hard time with it. I guess it's because I haven't viewed this forum as ugly, like some other forums, and the language kinda shocks me for some reason. I've been to HC and was afraid it would turn into that. Some folks say "Good luck" instead of "blessings", but they are both said with positive intent so how could anyone take offense at either? Words like, "My 47RI is the very best sounding guitar out there" express an opinion, just like "the greatest country in the world" expresses an opinion. Do I agree with everyone else's opinion? Of course not, but unless that opinion is expressed with rancor, I do not take offense. But my objection to the foul language and the "little boys behind the barn" humor is that parents might see this and not allow their kids to participate in what could be a very informative and inspiring dialog with mentors like we COULD be. I have several students who could benefit from taking part in this forum if it weren't for that. As it is, I don't mention it to them.

Several years ago, I used the term "blessings" as a way of closing my posts...Schroeder in particular was offended; I stopped and reflected and decided to change: I meant no harm and truly meant it in a positive way...as a Pastor, it is something I use everyday...but, if it causes discomfort to even one person and I can aleviate that by simply changing my terminilogy, then I did it. Paul T. and I are on opposite ends of the stick when it comes to certain topic's...that is a fact. However, we both have many other things in common and at Amelia 08, we, together with Cliff, enjoyed a great night on the town and found we all got along great...and we had a really good time... Life is filled with things we like and things we dislike...it's after all, just life... I just wish we could all check our "stuff" at the door and try to get along without trying to force that "stuff" down everyones throat...seriously, it can happen...and the experiences we share can and will be awesome and life changing... Accepting each other for who we are...what a concept! I have gone to the former Soviet Union six times since 1994...one of the main things I learned from my travels is that if we could approach the world through their eyes and not force our opinions as Americians on the rest of the world, we might have their respect, and we could exchange ideas and emotions that bring us together and not tear us apart... And that would be beautiful indeed...

Joined: March 2008 Posts: 2683 Location: Hot Springs, S.D. | Muzza, I think chocolate ice cream is the very best flavor. Oh, so you like vanilla better? OK. It doesn't hurt my feelings at all. I keep posting about the Black Hills being the most beautiful place on earth. I'm sure Lanaki or Mark in Boise might think I'm wrong, and that THEY live in the most beautiful place on earth. But I seriously doubt that they take offense at my claim. If we are only allowed to post things everyone can agree on we might as well go join the Taylor forum instead. And if we are going to take offense when other's opinions are different from ours, we are going to have long, miserable lives. All I am saying is that flag wavers and God lovers don't bother me, and they shouldn't bother anyone else. What I myself am not too fond of is the language and sexual innuendo. But when it is in a thread like "Wayne Kerr", once I see what it is about, I just choose not to read anymore. Problem solved. Come to think about it, here's one - Elixers stink!!! :D
