Shouldn't that be "I guess I wasn't thinking yet"? Maybe it takes two cups of coffee. :)

Isn't that what gives us the freedom to commit to things like this?
Self-(un)employed, as Beal says, has provided many freedoms for quality family times over the years, baseball, dance, etc. The misses and I could use a trip by ourselves. We will be there if at all possible.

Hate that we will miss y'all in a few weeks, we were really looking forward to it, but alas a BIG job came in. Take 'em while you can. ;)

The second time was deliberate. I wondered if anyone would catch it. You win, Steve.

If I could figure out a way to be gainfully unemployed, I'd do it.

Yeah. It's hard enough to be gainfully employed.

Well... I originally typed this into a thread that closed before I hit "Add Reply". This is where it belongs anyway...

We're slowly working out the details as well. I now know that it doesn't coincide with my daughter's graduation... so we're safe there. The questions now are:

Who's going? Just me and Nick? SWMBO?
How are we getting there? It's a loooong drive. Flying looks pretty complicated as well, so we'll see.

Either way, something fun and exciting to look forward to!

correct you are CL. Figured I would move my last post from the now closed thread over to the proper one that you kindly resurrected.

Alison,
I was just talking to my soul mate (Lia) this morning about our trip out to S Dakota this summer. She is having to decide between AI4 or your gathering because she is due for a knee replacement surgery within the next 4-8 weeks. If she does it sooner, then AI is out....later then SD is out.

She doesn't want to miss out on either event but this morning she mentioned "I have never been to the Dakotas" so it looks like she is leaning that way.

Regardless, it will be a good time and I am sure beautiful weather!

Well thanks for bringing this back up! I'd like to get a headcount pretty soon so I can try getting a group rate at a local motel. I'm going to need to find out how many are planning on attending the workshop too. It looks like the workshop will be on Saturday the 26th, followed by a concert with Craig Caruthers. Those who attend the workshop will get free concert tickets. Those who don't want to attend either, feel free to come anyway. Friday we will be jamming/open mic-ing it at a local restaurant. Sunday, for those who can stay, will be great for sight-seeing. We can even take guitars up to the Needles, or we can stop at my favorite rock in Wind Cave Park. (I go up there with my guitar fequently.) I am looking forward to this SO MUCH!

As of this moment:

2 - Lia and myself.

Only I will be participating in the clinic but the concert for both of us sounds nice....and so does Sunday sightseeing.

Alison... for those thinking of flying, where would we fly to? I don't see anywhere on the map that looks close.

Take you GPS. When you reach the right co-ordinates, open the door and jump.

Worked for D. B. Cooper.......

Forgive me for speaking before Alison does but I have been out there a few years ago: Mike, I would think Rapid City SD and rent a car...or maybe arrange a bus if there are a few folks who may want to go in on one...or a Van...

I still have it on my calendar, and I'll try and convince SWMBO to join me. Update coming.

Yep, fly into Rapid and carpool from there. The airport is about an hour and a half from Hot Springs. (Out here we don't measure distance by miles, but by driving time.)

Patty and I are planning to attend all the festivities.

Yepper, transportation is the major decision for us. I checked out the airlines (car rental required) and AmTrac (forget about it). So chances are, we will trek the 36 driving hours, one way, and make the best of it.

I should have room for one passenger w/guitar if we can make plans ahead and hook up en route.

Truly lookin' forward to a grand time...

Bobbo, it's June 25th and 26th and any other days you'd like to come. Darkbar, the house is already going to be full. (I have four folks staying with me.) But sure, there is plenty of floor space here at the shop. There is even a shower available a couple of blocks down the street at Evan's Plunge. But if no one wants to go to the Plunge, we could rent ONE room at a nearby motel and everyone could take turns using the shower. (I'm just afraid my tiny water heater wouldn't keep up if you all wanted to use mine.) If you don't need a shower at all, please stay in the PARKING LOT instead of the shop! :p

My sister and me, for sure. We will be doing the "fly-into-Rapid-City-rent-a-car" bit. Won't be bringing any guitars (I'll be flying from New Jersey to Ohio, and then from there on out); I won't need to bring one, as I plan to sample all of Ali's favorful ice creams. :D

I'm late to this party - but I might be a possible...it's an easy day's drive from Denver...Professor - I have a van - but I understand if you want to bike up with your Mrs. in the side car - Stephen - it might be unheard of - but we might actually see one another close than 1500 from our home.

I'll be there for sure. Sara may come with me, but being a the summer after high school she may find that there are more interesting things than a road trip with her old man.

I'm planning on driving from Salt Lake City on Thursday, and would be happy to take riders along. Mapquest says 9 hrs 11 minutes door to door. We could get two passengers in with us, or three if Sara doesn't go.

Alison, I'll plan on motelling it if the rate is reasonable.

This is starting to look really good.

Mark, you are too funny.
You know you and the misses are welcome any time at casa del t28 to have a few brew and play and sing....and record if you want!
Just don't bring the Potsticker!
