Location: SoCal | Heather, I never knew guitar playing was a contest. I've known people who were technically outstanding, who could play ever style known to man, and others who only knew 7 chords but got more music out of those 7 chords than anybody I've ever heard.
One of the best guitar players I've ever heard and known says that it's not "working" the guitar, it's "playing" the guitar (take a bow, Matthew).
You sound like my teenage kids, with everything being a contest. It's not. Life isn't. It's not is somebody better than somebody else. Anything else is a bit immature.
Speaking of immature, what's the 48dd refer to? |

Location: Boise, Idaho | Paul, you still have teenage kids? You young punk. My youngest turned 20 on May 15. I guess that's why I'm an old hippie. I too am not grasping this idea that someone has to "beat" somebody else at guitar playing.
I've rethought my original reference to a chugging contest. Now I'm thinking this sounds more like every dork who pulls up beside me at a stop light and wants to race. Is he better? Probably at something. Do I care?
My favorite is when a rice burner is along side me racing his engine and didn't see that there was road construction ahead in his lane. He dropped off the pavement and slammed on the brakes when he bottomed out. The rice burner kid behind him who was trying to get in on the "race" rearended him. I bet they weren't thinking they could beat me after that. |

I play only to support my singing.I studied jazz in college and I'm a professional studio singer.In radio and TV short spots.
I play keyboard also.I bought the one of the epiphone electric guitars so my son would be interested in playing in school.......But I pick the electrics up once a week and I also play the ovation every night for a bit while I write songs for commercials.

i may be 23 but i do have a bit of talent anf if you do a search you will see that i do hold a bit of knowledge. now im starting to get pissed. i maynot be the greatstr guitarist in the world and i never made any bullshit claims that i was like this prick that you are showboating for. i havnt been on this fourm longer than you and i will be here posting long after you are gone....i didnt come looking for a fight but when you make bullshit claims like you did and putting my friends down i do tend to get a bit pissed off.....jason |

I know several people who own Joe Pass Epi's, two of the left handed. I've often lusted after one of those myself. Shro' was telling me at Stonge's that a JP Epi was his main instrument for a long long time. |
