I've owned a few Ovations over the years - a couple of Celebrity models and an Ovation Collectors Edition - but at the moment my only acoustic is a Taylor. I'm looking to buy another Ovation for an upcoming Guitar Craft course, and they generally recommend a Super Shallow bowl which is easier to play with the Guitar Craft technique. I'm looking for a recommendation for a Super Shallow bowl. It appears all the current offerings are made in Asia, and I don't know if it's worth spending my money on one. The old recommendation for Guitar Craft is the 1867 Legend, which I see some come up on eBay, but I'd prefer one with newer electronics (which some of them have... I'm not sure when they stopped making this model). So what say ye experts: should I avoid the Asian built models and look for a used USA model? If so, would the 1867 Legend be the best option or are there other good options you'd recommend? Thanks, Mark

There are several Collectors models, 1869 Custom Legends, 1867 Legends, 1861 Balladeers, 1868 Elites, Thunderbolts, and probably some more I spaced on. The main difference is going to be looks, with some small variance in top grading and such. Acoustically, they'll all give up something over their bigger bowled siblings, but playability and plugged in will be equal. I personally think it is worth investing in a US model since you apparently are already a player and appreciate the small things that make for a high quality guitar. You get that from the New Hartford models.
