Made a graze through the Local Ted Brown and GC today. Had a mission!

One of the Veterans living in a local Vet Home had made a humble request for a guitar on a Giving Tree we do each year. Said he used to have a Gibson until it was stolen and he really missed playing. Would settle for any old thing. These guy (and Gals) in the Veteran's Home have nothing but each other.

If that don't stick in your heart I don't know what will. Got on the email with a handful of my fellow guitar playing Civil Service Workers and we had a small pile of chump change for a present. Found out he's not a big person and needs something light. I was looking at parlor size or similar. Originally I looked local and found something called S101 that had some nice features. Ran into some pretty looking Jay Turners but I couldn't get them tuned past the 5th fret. Out of the need to think I started playing some of the O's on the rack.

BTW - The Book Guitar is now at $1400 and still calling out!

Found an Applause Super Shallow Multi-hole that felt and sounded better than most of the Celebs there. I was really suprised. It was a nice little unit.

So someone who gave for others will be getting someting (half)round under the tree this year. Along with a few OFC picks and an invite here and for a couple of jam sessions!

Talked to the Sales/Set up guy Mark. Told him about this site and what to expect from O next year. I sure hope we don't have to keep secrets until January 15th cause I've blown it!

Peace

Good work MWoody

I think that veteran is going to be very surprised and happy.

I'm just an idiot that buys gear. I am really happy with the response my buddy's came in with.

Yeap, that is really turning a good deed there with you and all your pals. I used to work as a wheelchair van driver for an elderly day care center here in Maryland. Most of these people were elderly and living basically with foster families. Some had some health conditions like memory loss and depression and things like that, so I did things to try to cheer them up. And, they loved to talk to me. I lost my grandmother when I was 12, and that was my only grandparent I had when I was born. So, I enjoyed talking to them because it reminded me of things she used to say.

So I would ride my roller blades around in the cafeteria, crack some jokes now and then, I even took them outside and got a baseball team together to play against other centers in area. We were of course using foam softballs and foam bats with a piece of plastic inside. Worked out really well.

But, there were two guys in there that said they loved music and really missed playing the guitars they used to have. One guy was a folk song player and had an acousitic guitar, the other gentleman used to play in a Gospel band in church. I thought, I have a guitar that hardly gets played, why not bring it in and see what these guys have? The administrators said it was okay as long as they didn't play too loud, so I brought it in.

Let me tell you, these two guys sounded better than some bands I have paid to see. They were a little rusty at first and weren't too sure what to do with the amp I have, but we worked it out between the 3 of us and it was some really good music. I used to bring it in there about once a week and let them play as long as they had time to play it.

I haven't worked for that company for a couple of years now, and I am wondering of those guys are still there. I am thinking of calling up and finding out and maybe hopping by or around Christmas and letting those guys get in another jam. You all probably have heard about my Ovation by now. It may not be perfect right now, but it still sounds good and can bring in some smiles.

So, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of you and I hope you all have a very good and safe holiday with the ones you love.
