Hi folks, I have an old Balledeer which needs a new soundboard and have some questions for the board.

1...Can I buy a complete soundboard with the binding ?
2...Is it really worth changing this on a Custom Balledeer 1981-83 model ?
3...Where can I purchase gold tuners and a orig rosette from ?
4...Are the bowls all the same size (not depth) to fit a soundboard with the bindings ?
5...Has anyone got any links to a Ovation restoration Web-Site etc....?

Kind thanks for your Input

1...Can I buy a complete soundboard with the binding ? THE BINDING IS PUT ON AFTER THE SOUNDBOARD IS ATTACHED. THEY ARE NOT ONE PIECE.

2...Is it really worth changing this on a Custom Balledeer 1981-83 model ? PROBABLY NOT

3...Where can I purchase gold tuners and a orig rosette from ? TUNERS FROM SCHALLER, ROSETTE FROM OVATION, F.A. OVATION SERVICE REP. OR SOMETIMES THEY SHOW UP ON EBAY.

4...Are the bowls all the same size (not depth) to fit a soundboard with the bindings ? I THINK SAME SIZE BUT ATTACHMENT MIGHT BE DIFFERENT OVER THE YEARS.

5...Has anyone got any links to a Ovation restoration Web-Site etc....? I DON'T KNOW ABOUT A WEBSITE, BUT SOME MEMBERS HERE AT OFC HAVE DONE RESTORATIONS OF THEIR OWN

MHO on making an instrument into a different type or model is Don't! It will tie up more resources than you know.

It is highly reccomended to polish, shine, replace with OEM and lightly accessorize what you have.

And, if I get this right, Great Britian taxes the crap out of exerything coming in?

As a former native of the suburbs of Boston I would not put up with that!

Won't they ever learn?

The tour of the Ovation factory that was on TV showed a very complicated die fixture that is used to attach the top to the bowl. I don't think this is something that you can do at home.

As my fellow OFC compatriots will attest, I have more guts than brains, in regard to tackling restoration work. SO, just how bad IS the soundboard? IMHO, if the top is still in one piece, its salvageable. I can tell you, having a new top replacement will drain the exchequer of about 300 US dollars- do the math- you could get a good replacement Balladeer for that. My suggestion would be to get a repair estimate locally, and then consider selling it on FleaBay, and using the proceeds for purchase of a new (or near-new)"O". Some schmuck like me would surely snap up the opportunity for snatching your critter out of the jaws of certain death, destruction, and disrepair.
BTW, I may be making a false assumption, but I believe The MotherShip would replace the top & bowl, as a unit- more costly, but a better repair.
Really, how good is the neck on your Balladeer? The necks on my 1127 & 1115 were almost perfect, warranting the investment in their restoration by The Wizards in New Hartford.
