...and I'm a bit disappointed.

Just bought a Standard Balladeer. It played nicely in the shop, but now I've had it a few days, my first impressions have faded.

There are a number of quality issues, the underside of the neck is quite rough and needs sanding, but most annoying is that there is a horrible buzz / vibration from inside the body of the guitar when playing a bass note - especailly an open E. Sounds like something is loose in there ?? The pre-amp isn't too good a fit so maybe that is buzzing, or some poorly fitted intenal wiring.

Anyone else have similar issues ? Or is this what to expect now they're made in Korea ?

That's not the norm. Take it back to the shop and swap it for another one.

umm... adjust the truss rod so the other 5 buzz also? theres a lot to be said for consistancy. either that or exchange it, ovations are too well built usually for that to happen. musta been a friday guitar.

Tighten the can, adjust the saddle, adjust the truss rod and play it for a week.

May have been an adjustment in humidity from the shop to your house.

Then trade it in for a USA made Ovation.

Woody's advice is from a Luthier/Guitar Tech's way to handle a problem (which is a good thing!) but most folks lack the skill or would prefer to not mess with such issues on a new guitar.

Most guitars come from the factory with a middle-of-the-road setup, to be playable right out of the box....then you can tweak it (or have it done) later to your playing style, etc.

Humidity from store to home is probably the main culprit but Ovations are usually not effected as bad as an all wood guitar....

....Long story short - Take it back and get another one

p.s. Welcome to the Ovation family!
