| Here is black friday and I did it! I went to guitar center and got a brand new Ovation 1777LX legend and love it! Cost me 954.00 hope that's a good price. I'll post pics some day soon. Woohoo!! |

I paid $999 and ordered on-line through GC's sister company "Musicians Friend." I'm guessing you went to GC's after Thanksgiving Black Friday 8am-10am take an exta 10% off sale. Do you have other Ovations?
How do you like the gloss neck? Unfortunetely I hated it and could never buy that. I'd have to settle for a Balladeer LX if I ever went O again.
I love the oiled V neck on my S7771. The single greatest guitar neck I have ever played!!!!
Ovation made 2 huge changes on the legend LX..no more v and covered it in sticky gloss.
How do you like it? I guess many here don't mind it gloss.
It is a sweet sounding and classy guitar though. You will enjoy it. |

Location: SoCal | "Sticky gloss"? If you wash your hands before playing, and wipe down the neck occassionally, the gloss does not get sticky. And some of us here more than just like the gloss, we love it.
It's a personal preference thing. |

| Drats! I just found out/realized my intellitouch tuner won't fit on the ovation headstock. Looks like I'll have to rely on the built in tuner which so far has worked fine in the solitude of my home. |

Location: SoCal | The built in tuner should always work fine, no matter where you are. The intellitouch tuner can be clipped on just behind the nut on either the treble or bass side. There are times when it works fine there and times when I need to tune with octives at the 12th fret when using it. It's not my favorite tuner. |

The oiled wood is great for the necks. It also is a somewhat dated look and it was time to go back to the gloss finish. If you don't like it take some 0000 steel wool to it and scuff it up. after playing a week or so it will look the same but feel better. Now the V missing is another thing and I don't like that very much. Of course I think the necks should be 1 3/4 at the nut too. |

Location: Oklahoma City | After a few years with a CS257 (sounded OK plugged in, not so great unplugged), I decided that it was time to upgrade, and so I just got the Legend LX as well! What a fantastic guitar, and what a major step up from the CS257. Couldn't find the burgundy, so I went with natural (black is a little high maintenance for me, though I was strongly tempted...) I think I'm in love. I wonder what I can get for the 5-yr-old CS257 with case?
hint: you might be able to get a few bucks back if you can get GC to price match the guitartrader.com price. |

i dont care for the intelletouch either paul. i got one, like allot of things i don't really need, because it was really different. i used it once. i find that unless a string is getting ready to break, that my ovation acoustics stay in tune, set after set. to me that is amazing since each set has at least 2-3 hard driving full chord rhythm parts being played over a really loud '64 tele, keyboard, bass and drums. the tele requires tweaking all night long and unless someone bumps the headstock/tuners, the ovations hang right in the pocket.
so anyway, an intellitouch tuner would just be in the way. i'd like to try something with an onboard tuner someday. my amp has a built in tuner and that can be handy if you realize it is less sensitive than most of the stand alone tuners i have used. (red-green-red lights. has to be a steady only green to be "on") |

it is interesting how little differences can really make a guitar feel right on. 1 3/4, just that 1/16, can be perfect for some of us. i like a wider neck. i'd like to try one of the wide neck adamas guitars. the v necks were a bit of a problem for me at first until i realized that the inside of my thumb had taken too much of a beating from holding blacksmith tongs and forging under a power hammer for many years. it's amazing i stayed with guitar, but i think it is the reason my hands still work at all. all it took was a little softening of the "v" so it didn't press on the abused tendon quite so sharply and they became my favorite acoustic neck. the 83 collector's neck is pretty cool too. somewhere between an electric and an acoustic neck. the ukII style neck is my favorite electric neck.
as to finish, they both have their pluses. i like the feeling of traction or that my thumb is really anchored on a natural wood neck. the v adds to that. in the tropical sweat dripping climate a painted neck is easier to maintain, but can make me work harder to get that ghecko thumb feel.
steel wool turns to rust bisquits here (even 304 stainless rusts here), so i use 1000 -1500 wet sand paper sold at auto body shops, or scotch brite pads that are available in many degrees of roughness. i use it for so many things i couldn't imagine not having lots of it on hand. it comes in sheets, and even as scru loc grinder pads. |
