I'm guessing if she's solo, it'll be a one hour set. It's a great location, within walking distance of either Danny Eng's on Pell street in chinatown, or the Buritto Bar on White street. Eng's has great cantonese food and the burrito bar has enourmous margaritas. Also, if you are into basses, and want to make a day of it, within walking distance of David Gage's workshop (see previos post), but you have to make an appointment first. Tickets are $12 for the Tap room. And can be bought online. So far my wife and I are going.

She was in Atlanta a few weeks ago and opened for David Lindley at The Red Light, one of Atlanta's best acoustic rooms. She toured with him at the very beginning of her pro career in late 2002. A friend of mine sent me this recent comment by Mr. Lindley on the Red Light show: From David Lindley's website http://davidlindley.com "Kaki King was on the bill and it was great to see her and hear what she's been doing. Touring, lots of touring, flying from place to place on planes. Scary. New compositions and good ones. Now there you have a musical mind and the skills and fearlessness to go along with it that doesn't appear but only now and then. A rare combination. And she's really little so it's even scarier when you hear this huge sound come out of that guitar. It's always amazing to see and hear her play." an4340, I hope you enjoy her show. Tell her you sorta know her old man. Best-- Dave King

Even if I don't get a chance to say HI, (she is working after all) she'll know we're there because I guarantee we'll be applauding enthusiastically. For those of you coming into the City that night, make sure you leave enough time, because that's a "GRID LOCK" alert day. I hope a bunch of people from here, go, 'cause it'd fun to meet you. I don't know how we'll identify ourselves, but we'll think of something. Hasta La Proxima Rick

I asked my wife how you guys (guys in the generic sense of collegues) could recognize me, and she said, just tell them to look for the white guy, wearing a brown watch cap with a chinese girlfriend. Why a hat? Well that's as good as any description of me. I'm going to take the hat off if it gets too hot. Hope to see you. Rick

In the same group, there's also a thread entitled 'How to make Ovation sound better' which has the usual salad bowl, oil changing, mashed potato references.

New York City to me will always be the way it was when I visited in 1954 on my way to the Sikorsky factory in Bridgeport Connnecticut for training on the H-34 helicopter that the Army was buying at the time. Visited Central Park and drove around the city with Army buddies that lived there, it was very impressive to an Ohio farm boy, and verified the song "How You Going To Keep Them Down on the Farm, After They've Seen Paree" or NYC. Love to walk those streets to hear Kaki play. Bailey

This show will have a few more surprises than the last and will once again include the drumming talent of Dave Treut. Although he is not a male model himself, he met one once at Abercrombie and feels that qualifies him enough to take his shirt off. Most of the show will be the solo guitaring you've come to appreciate, but we'll be supplying ear plugs for the last few songs." Have a good time. Dave King Kaki's Dad

First the tap room could hold about 150 people, and it was packed. And in the part of the audience I was in the audience was musically well informed. For example, in our little group was myself, a guitarist endorsed by Gibson, one of her band members, another guitarist and my wife. We were rapt. Of course, there was a drunk having occassional conversations with himself behind us, but that's normal when you combine alcohol and 150 people. We just ignored the poor mumbling bastard. Kaki is better live than on disc and her sense of playfulness really comes thru! I won't give away her patter, but she told stories about some of the songs that brought them even more to life. Her primary axe was an Adamas that I've never seen before, missing the lower bout sound ports. My gut says losing the sound ports, is good in a miked situation. It sounded like you could get more low end out of the guitar. (I think in an unamplified situation the second sound ports let out more high end) She also played a classical guitar set up like a koto. And played like a koto. Really cool. You can hear it as the last "bonus" song on her new album. Live though the koto type string bending really comes out. She said her managager made it. Another interesting thing was the looping she did with a lap steel. Really beautiful. And that in a word sums it up. The only way to describe the set is to say she's like her album, but better. The good news for you guys who missed it last night, is that in February she's going to be, from what I gathered an artist in knitting factory residence experimenting with new stuff --- has potential to be very cool. I'll try to keep you apprised, and it would be good to see you guys. I'll post pictures when I can.

Interesting guitars:The Adamas, the koto and the lap steel. In terms of decorating the neck, I sure like the target diamond at the 12th fret. The MEWP should have something like that. Oh yeah, look close, it's not a diamond. Nice touch. Cheers.
