Hi there, nice to see you all. I have been playing (I use that term loosely) for about 20 years on an 80's Kramer F6000 electric and a Jasmine (Takamine subsidiary) 12 string acoustic, and have never had a 6 string acoustic before. Well, I am turning 40 and thought for my big 4-0 gift to myself (or should I call it midlife crisis?), I would splurge on one. As such, my wife didn't have to get me a gift for now or Christmas.

I have always liked the elegance of the Ovations, and it wasn't until I tried a used Pinnacle model at a guitar shop, that I really appreciated it's sound. I tried a few Celebrity models too, and also liked them.

I wanted something with a deeper contour, and saw Matt Smith's demo on the OP Pro (with XLR) on Youtube and wanted that too!

I don't have enough cash for an Adamas, and after much research, thought to go with a Custom Elite C2078ax-rtd (that Matt Smith demoed) or an Elite 1778tx-5gsm.

I opted for the C2078ax. Yes, it's a Korean model, but having the extra grade in wood, and that preamp, and the contoured deep bowl was beneficial. I purchased it through Ebay, where maybe I got lucky but found that the price between those 2 guitars was only $100 between different sellers, with the C2078ax costing me a little under $800 including shipping and case. I was very happy when it arrived, as I got it for much less than I thought, and arrived intact after being shipped from the southern US to West Coast Canada.

So in every sense of the word, I am a geniune Ovation newbie. I never expected to get a red guitar, but I'll be damned if I didn't think this one is one of the prettiest I've seen! lol

Attached are 2 pics and a drawing I did in Photoshop.

With this power comes great responsibility. Use it wisely and you'll be respected by your peers. Use it foolishly and you'll get vacations. So, do you know Gabrielle Miller? ;)
