Location: Waurika OK | Yesterday I was visiting my daughter and her family in Texas and as usual a pawn shop visit was in order to check for Ovations.
Surprisingly, they had five; two celeb's, a Balladeer, and a Classical and an Applause.
The classical had stacked vol/tone like my old 1617, two 1/4" outputs, one marked stereo, deep brown bowl, no label inside, but serial number was 223xxx (1981?). It was in pretty rough shape; knobs missing and some serious finish cracks, BUT sounded good unplugged. I did not plug it in.
Anyone know what model it is? And, the asking price was $139, probably could be had for less. Would it be worth rescuing and someday sending to the factory for TLC?
The Applause was unusual looking (at least to me) in that it did not have the usual Ovation headstock. It was more traditional looking with two grooves starting near the nut and flaring somewhat toward the outside, at the top there was a raised oval centered between the grooves. Was this an earlier design?

Location: 6 String Ranch | the 13s had a hook at the end of the fingerboard hangiing in the sound hole. That's a cheap price if it is a 1613. |

Location: Waurika OK | Thanks, you guys nailed it. I had forgotten it had the hook in the fingerboard. I thought maybe someone had done that after they bought it.
I guess I will try to buy it, but it's 150 miles from here. Maybe I can describe it to my son-in-law and he can buy it for me. He is a pretty good horse trader.

Location: Canton (Detroit), MI | Noel, the Applause sounds like the original version, like mine. Applause guitars did not have the "Ovation" headstock for at least the first 7 or 8 years of production.

As the proud new owner of '81 "1613" (just got it Tuesday) I would say it's well worth it at that price, and who knows, you might even be able to get it for less.
It sounds from your description like the top will most likely need to be replaced, but even so, you'd still end up with a great guitar at a reasonable price, even after the repair work. The Ovation service center is second to none, as many here will tell you. They take great pride in their work, are very reasonably priced, and will send that guitar back to you looking, sounding and playing like brand new.
