The better known and more easily available is the cables by GEORGE L. These are nice cables that you can custom make to any length you need. Comes in two sizes and two colors and the ends can be 1/4" straight, 1/4" right angle, and an extra long 1/4" straight especially for strat style input jacks. You can order a kit or just order it by the foot.
The other cable that I also use is manufactured by Bill Lawrence (of pickup fame). His cable is a little thinner and more flexible and he only offers a 1/4" straight jack. I believe it only comes in a 50 foot pack with 10 connectors.
From an assembly standpoint, the Bill Lawrence system is easier to use and more full proof. It is a simple push in the jack and turn the screw in type system that is easy to use. The George L system can sometimes not make a good connection if the cable is not inserted exactly right. This has been more of a problem (for me anyway)on the right angled jacks that the straight jack design.
The cables do sound slightly different but you can't go wrong with either setup and in my opinion they are both superior to the vast majority of cables on the market.

Location: Florida | I've not tried the Lawrence. However, I've got a 250 foot roll of GeorgeL cable and a nice bag of ends here... They're tops. What I REALLY like about the GeorgeL is they're about half the capacatance of other cables. If you're into long cables... 25, 30, 50 footers... you'll have much less loss of the high end. |
