I hae a guitar on Ebay now and I received a question from someone that asks if I would be willing to ship to Japan. Does anyone have any experience with overseas shipping. Usually, I restrict sales to the lower 48.

I never shipped a guitar to Japan, but I did ship some bicycle parts that I sold on ebay. I made sure that the guy payed in US dollars via PayPal and paid for FedEx insured delivery. I had no problems with the deal. Dave

I have shipped several Ovations to Japan, and it is rather simple. USPS is the most cost effective, and it can be sent for less than $100 including insurance.

PayPal offers no backup for international deals, so if you have any concerns about the seller's veracity you can request a wire transfer of funds to your bank. (I have received payment via PayPal in each of these transactions with no problems, however.)

There is a very active fan base for Ovation guitars in Japan, and they buy a lot of guitars on eBay.

Lately a large portion of my business has been overseas sales.

for the private individual I would suggest an international money order, ( these are very common in japan) or a western union money order of bid pay check.

USPS is the cheapest but I would suggest using the ems service. Usually the item gets there in 7-10 days and it most times faster than air mail and it gets priority service.

remember insure it for the full amount, if it gets lost or damaged you are then in trouble, don't mark it as a gift unless it is, pack it as if it will go through a war and you should be fine. If anyone asks you to commit fraud and lie on the postal and customs forms I would move on. I understand why people want to you to do it but as a business I have to protect myself.

I do not use pay pal, I have enough pals with their hands in my pocket
