Hi All,

I have a burgundy Legend LX and a blue Balladeer LX. I really like both guitars. I also have a new Custom Legend 1779-USA on order through Al P. I'm interested on the OFC's input and opinion on the differences both good and bad between the Legend LX and Custom Legend. Thanks! Play On!

John, the difference is in appearance and sound. The CL has more "gingerbread" appearance items on it than the LX. Acoustic sound-wise, the difference will be primarily the difference between LX and non-LX, which has been discussed before. IMHO, the LX has a more "open" sound than the CL, which may or may not be to your taste.

I've played three different 1777 LXs and only liked one of them. I can't remember playing a bad mid-bowl non-LX 1777 or Custom Legend, though.

If I was picking one without playing or hearing it, I'd take the Custom Legend. Now if it was a Balladeer LX vs. the CL, it would be a very hard choice....

At this point, the bracing is different on the two guitars. The LX has the new X bracing and the CL has the A pattern. I don't know that the new bowl is being used for the CL nor do I know if the new neck system is being used.

Unless you need a fancier guitar, I'd go with the LX. The other alternaive is to look for a new Al DeMiola AD II. It's got the deep bowl.

The other question would be how are you going to use it? On stage or at home?

It really doesn't matter a damn if it's an LX an or whatever. Just buy the one that sounds & feels best to you.
