Arthritis in the joint where my thumb meets my hand is becoming a slowly increasing problem. I own a CL 12 and a '97 Collectors' with narrow neck (both ends of the neck spectrum). I played a lot yesterday and that narrow neck is a REAL advantage for me. I'm now considering a full-size 6str. with a narrower-than standard neck. What are my Ovation options? I know the Elite T is one, but it's a bit too modern looking for me. With all the new tooling at the factory, do you think I could get a more traditional looking guitar with a narrower neck? I know I'm rambling here. Just looking for greater minds than mine to think with me. Thanks. John <>{

The current 1777 non-LX Legend is an option, also. Mine has a very nice slim neck, almost as slim as an electric guitar. It's certainly slimmer than the Elite T.

Probably anything that ends with "7". Basically, an Elite neck, so I'm told. I will attest my 1127 "Connelly" is a real pleasure to play. Actually, Ol' Faithful, with that old '60's neck, is really easy on the aching joints. And, John, I hear what you're saying about the thumb joint; I have to hand-write several mental health evaluations daily, and have been to a hand therapist once, already.
Now, who's rambling.........?

Maybe I don't understand your question.

The Custom Legend 12's are 1 7/8ths (1 14/16), the Custom Legend 6's are 1 11/16 - same as the 1997-N parlor.

As to the Ovation 6's - think this true (1 11/16) throughout the line. Even the 2002 Collector's is 1 11/16.

Can be a difference in the shape of the neck which might help.

Tony, I think John is looking for a slim cross-section neck, as least that is how I interpreted his question. The new non-LX Legends (1777 and ADII) definitely have that.

I guess I'll have to measure the DEPTH of the neck on the '97. That may be the key. I know my hand feels a big difference.

Must be the depth, I'm finding that my finger joints aren't as flexable as a few years ago but a bigger fatter neck helps that. If it's not 1 3/4 at the nut I don't play it.

I have found that older Ovations with the original five pice neck and truss rod (not the Kaman bar) have the thinest neck profiles. I think that the Kaman bar was introduced in '82-'83. Just look for any older legend/balladeer model with a truss rod cover and you will get a guitar with a very thin neck.
