The only experience I have is hearing David Crosby and James Taylor play theirs . . . . which'd be good enough endorsement for ME to buy one . . . if I could afford one . . .

David Wilcox is another user of Olsons...he says he especially likes their stability for lots of different tunings - and David retunes all night long at a show - different tunings about every 2-3 songs.

When I saw him last year, he only played one song in standard tuning - and it was the one he had the most trouble with (said he hadn't played it in awhile), but once he got going, it was incredible.

Phil Keaggy plays Olson as well. I think that is a pretty doggone good endorsement.

Roger,
I was going to mention Phil but you beat me to it. The sound of Olson Guitars are Great. But they are expensive, and you have to wait a very long time for one to be built if you want one.

Olsen is in the very enviable position of having some seriously big names playing his guitars and like any artist endorsment it does no harm to his reputation, the length of his waiting list or to the price he can charge for his instruments. However there are any number of small-shop luthiers whose work is of the same or higher standard. Once you get to a certain price point they're all good, you just have to decide which flavour of good suits you. Is an Olsen better than a Bourgeois, or a Goodall, or a Bown, a Sobell, a Klein, a Collings or "insert name here"? The answer to which depends on your taste, your needs, your personal definition of "better" and to some degree your bank balance.

It's all ice cream.
That said I haven't played an Olsen. They are about twice the price of the equlivent Collings which is twice the price of the equlivent Martin. At some point it gets to be too much.

I'll insert a name : Paragon. Great guitars, great guys, low price for now, but they are catching on. The wait has gone up to 9 months now, use to be a couple.

Of course you can also get an Ovation LX, no waiting.....

B]"Of course you can also get an Ovation LX, no waiting..."

Yes, they're out there, but according to one dealer here, Ovation is around 2,000 orders behind on LX's, and they haven't even got a left-handed body/bowl yet (!).

So depending on what you want, there "might be" some wait involved.
