| hey all... i just buyd a seconed hand ovation guitar which seems pretty old but is in a great condition. the serial number of the guitar is 1617. can anyone help me get some info about it ?
like the year it was made the wood, the name of the model and how much is it worth.

Location: Canton (Detroit), MI | Hi, inferno, I also have a model no. 1617. It is a Legend, with a pickup for playing amplified. The top is AAA spruce. More information is on Ovation's website at here:

The serial number is on a sticker inside the bowl; it should be 6 digits. To figure out when your guitar was made, go to either the Reference section on this site or to Ovation's site:

As far as what it is worth, it very much depends on condition. If it is in good shape, no cracks, very minor nicks and scratches, pickup system works, etc., it would bring roundly $300 to $400 on eBay.

Location: Canton (Detroit), MI | (smiling)....inferno, I've NEVER been able to get the holder in my 1617 to take a battery(I bought it used several months ago)!!!!! It is DIFFICULT. Maybe someone else here knows the knack.....

Location: Phoenix AZ | I have done two very easy modifications for this. Both work exceptionally well (WAY better than the original).
Method A: Buy some very strong 1" wide velcro. Remove the foam from the holder. Attach the velcro to the flat side of the holder and the matching piece to the inside of the bowl. It helps to flatten out the ridge in the holder where the stupid screw was supposed to grab. Remove the screw from the guitar bowl so it does not rattle around. Cover the screw hole with a little black plug you can buy in any h/w store.
Method B: Same as method A, but just throw away the holder. Buy a cheap (69 cents) battery connection at Radio Shack. Splice in the wires to the olf holder wires. Then just velcro the battery directly to the bowl with no actual "holder".
There are probably dozens of other possibilities as well. |
