Just got back from summer namm.

There is a 12 string LX legend and elite T. Both sound and play really well.

No news on deep bowls.

ovation had a price increase.

The OFC gathering next year will be in June combined with a company picnic. The date is not officially firmed up but probably in the latter part of the month. ( with my luck it will coincide with the Philly guitar show so you can have fun without me)

talked briefly about the OFC model guitar. That is still on the drawing board and as we come closer to a reality I will post more info.

I didn't make it inside gruhn's everytime I walked past he was closed.

here are some other observations non ovation related

some highlights

Hamer dvd, just watched it last night at about 1 am, really nice some great old pics.

Hamer korina junior now has standard grover tuners instead of the keystones. Hamer imports are all made in China now, lower prices and high quality instruments. Hamer had an accross the board price increase not as severe as predicted.

Peavey and EVH are rumoured to split in 05. Eddie/ward is making Charvel custom shop guitars and rumour Fender is going to buy them.

Marshall handwired amps looks and sound really good but are pricey.

Korg digital recorder now has an add on board that has a tube compressor and mic preamp that you can build into the board. I was way in love with it.

Not one PRS single cut was shown at the show.

Hagstrom guitars are back, they are not like the Hagstrom of old but I guess you should not expect them to be. They were nice for the pricepoint.

tremol-no soon to be distributed by WD products is a neat little product that will lock a trem system.

pro mark has a limited edition neal pert drum stick. (suzipep is a big rush fan and got a pair)

fender custom shop had some killer guitars and amps. One had bamboo sort of binding and some take offs on old tweed champs. very cool

benedetto line was expanded for the archtop lovers.

No word on the Fender is for sale rumor.

Ritter basses very impressive.

Nik Huber guitars very impressive.

Santa Cruz acoustics very impressive.

This is only a fraction of what caught my eye and ear at the show.

Al-

Any word yet on the Adamas Anniversary guitars? They were hinting at the tour of something really special.

looks like we have to wait till the anniversary. They are still talking about a variety or retro and modern versions of retro guitars.

I'd really dig a black Adamas II 12 string textured top (though I'm guessing 12 string likely won't be an option on the anniversary model), mid/deep bowl with the op pro! Saving up!

What is that textured binding around the body on those called? It looks like engraved brown leather. What is it made of?

Thanks for the update!
J

Cool Al!

It is interesting that as we approach anniversaries, changes in tech applications and a change in Ovation's pursuit of acoustic enjoyment we are seeing little right now. I am optimistic for the next year or so!

An Elite T 12 string??? I would love to hear/play the Elite T unit with a GS bowl and an ANS neck!

Patience? :(

I hope you can be there Al. That would be great if they let us crash their company picnic. Make me want to go even more.

That'll be cool!!
It's a MUCH better time of year to do it.
I, for one would like to recommend using the same hotel we used the last time. Even though I was probably one of the FIRST to bitch about there not being a bar, I think the BYOB (Bring Your OWN Bar) thing worked out much better (and collectively, probably saved us a lotta cai$h).

That center "courtyard" is just CRYING OUT fer a Hawaiian-Shirted, Summertime Guitar/POOL Party!!!
(with optional RomanOrgy once the "old people" go to sleep:-)

You didn't miss much at Grunn's if you're looking for Ovation/Adamas, Al....I was there twice last October when we were in Nashville on vacation and they GRUDGINGLY have a few....you can tell they don't like Os.

The Elite T LX isn't out yet????? Are the truss rod covers I'm seeing on the ones in the stores here decorative and covering nothing????

Sounds like my wife and I will probably be able to go to the OFC tour next year.....

Gruhn's usually never has Ovations but he doesn't seem to have much of the realllly cool vintage stuff anymore either. Too bad.

I forgot to mention this. I saw an interesting exchange on the Namm floor. I was passing one of the booths that sell made in china knock off guitars amps mics etc. they had an Ovation knockoff. it had a round back and epaulets different headstock and preamp. Not bad but not an Ovation.

Customer to importer: "how much for those OHHvation guitars?" Give me a good price on 3 of them.

dealer to customer " the Ohhvation guitars will cost you XXX"

Customer "ship me 3 of them there Ohhvations."

funny how even dealers that know better do not even care to say Ohhvation style or something they just flat out call them Ohhvations.
