Location: Yucaipa, California | This weekend I have been invited to play guitar for my Church's Vespers hike. Knowing that the terrain is rather rough, I decided to take my Tacoma Olympia "doesn'tmatterwhathappenstoit" guitar instead of my beloved "Os". So, last night I got it out to check the strings, strapped it up, put it on and uck! :( Boy, is it uncomfortable! I couldn't see the fretboard (no nice Ovation tilt),jabbed into my ribs, and the acute angle forced on my elbow by the box gave me "box guitar elbow"! :mad:
I picked up my Balladeer and ahhhhhhhhhh! :D
Anyone else have the same experience???
This guy won't EVER go back to those pesky boxes! :cool: |

Location: Phoenix AZ | You know Tim, I think it's all a matter of what you're used to. I feel the same way as you about the comforts of Ovation. And in 35 Years of playing, I've never once had an Ovation slip off my knee. I don't see what all the fuss is about. But when I jam with my friend Lou and his Martin and we swap guitars, the box is just kulling. And every 30 seconds the Ovation is slipped off Lous knee and is headed for thr flooor. I think you adapt over time. |

Location: Yucaipa, California | I almost never play seated, but when I do, the "O" is solid and doesn't slide... AND it's far more comfortable to hold... they are just something special.... :cool: |

Location: Back in the Valley of the Sun Mesa Az. | It's funny, all my deep bowl Ovations sit just fine on my lap. It was my CS255 super shallow 12 that I had problems with slipping. A little strip of that sticky back sandpaper (used for steps/walkways) and problem solved ($2.35).
I would have thought my deep bowls would've caused the bigger issues.

1) Cinch up the strap and hold the peghead up higher. At this angle you have more comfortable access to the fretting and your strummer/picker hand enters at a different angle.
2) Buy or borrow a 1/2 scale Ovation or Applause. I have an AA12 which is low overhead, stealth silhouette and very playable. |

Location: Canton, Ohio | You know with the durability of the Ovation a good "travel Ovation" would the way to go. I guess you just need one you can afford to risk wear to. |

...did it... still jabbed into my ribs and gave me a sore elbow.... as for the "O" travel guitar... I'm saving for one of Al's Adamii ...trying to duck under the Wife's "Excessive Guitar Acquisition Radar"...
I guess the point of my original posting was that, In Comparison to Ovations, box guitars just aren't comfortable to me anymore.... |
