Location: Back in the Valley of the Sun Mesa Az. | Stopped in the Pawn shop yesterday. He had a baby Taylor. Simple little guitar, but it sure sounded nice. $275.00 asking price. Not an Ovation, but not bad either.

Location: Phoenix AZ | I think it's a slightly different model, but the Taylor Big Baby is awesome and I'm very familiar with it. My son has one. For $300. it sounds better than most, if not all, of my Ovations. Go back to the shop and buy it. The two screws are what hold the neck on. It's a bolt on neck. Has no heel, so very easy and comfortable to play way up the fretboard. |

Seriously though, it does have great sound and projection. It would make a great traveling guitar. It has a scratch on the face, but that's nothing. It has a very flat finish, almost bare wood. Neat little guitar! Yes it does have the two screws in the neck, but it doesn't look bad, and the neck was easy to play.

Location: Tulsa, Oklahoma | I had a baby taylor on loan as a traveling guitar and it was a good little guitar... for $275 you can beat the hell out of it and not worry about the old lady shoving her bag on top of it in the overhead bin on the plane.... I've since turned one of my balladeers into my travel guitar... I just slip it into the gigbag and carry it on the plane. In the overhead bin I just lay it face down and don't worry about a thing... Love those roundbacks!... |

| A used Baby Taylor for $ 275.00 is a bit pricey. They sell new at GC for about $249.00 - $ 299.00, including the nice tan canvas gigbag with the Taylor logo.
I have played many Baby Taylors and have not been exceptionally attracted to the sound. However, several weeks ago I played an exceptionally sounding spruce top, rosewood back Baby at the GC in New Orleans that was priced at $ 199.00, including the gigbag. I had to restrain myself form buying it the sound was so good.
The Babys come in either spruce or mahagony tops, and several different variations of woods on the back. The different woods do definitely make a difference in the tonal characteristics.
Regarding the Big Baby, I agree with Dave. It, along with several of the new lower priced Martins, are dynamite guitars for the money. |

However I answer this is going to open a can of worms. Next time I have access to the Taylor I'll record a few riffs on multiple guitars and post as MP3's. Let the listener identify which is Taylor and which is Ovation.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing Ovation. But for $300-400. this is one hell of a guitar and should not be dismissed just it doesn't have a round back. |

Ovations are only some of the flavors in the freezer, and there are other good ones in there, too.

Location: Tampa, Florida | I have to agree with standing O, the Big Baby is an awesome guitar. I have owned two of them in the past among with two Baby M Taylors. They are nice guitars, and the Big Babies hava a lot of tone in 'em. They are super plain, but are great as beaters. |

Location: Fayetteville, NC | The Baby Taylors I've played were OK. They didn't knock my socks off though. I guess they would make an Ok travel guitar. After all that's what they were built for. I just don't know that I'd buy one. |
