There is something about my 1657 Anniversary guitar that I can't figure out. It is in the antique brown finish, but you can see the braces very clearly. It almost gives the top a streaked look. The guitar has the A brace pattern, and you can see it clear as day when you look at the guitar. I mean you see every brace. This is not a problem, I am just wondering why this is? Anyone have any ideas?

Ideas?

Sort of like the thong panty lines on the hot assed bitch in front of you in the grocery line, Yes, it definately gives you ideas of playing the little bitch in the privacy of the home.

Ideas?

This happened to many of the guitars from that era. I think it was the glue used to bond thee braces, as it aged the lines became visable.

That could also be a sign of low humidity. Sometimes if the soilid top becomes too dry, the top shrinks and sinks a bit. You can check by laying a straight edge across the top of the guitar. If you see any dips, chances are the guitar is dry.

Low humidity might be the cause... just don't add too much or this might be the result!

I'm not sure if this applies, but it can be seen at times. Spruce will age to a darker color, but if the top is effectively sealed with a no breathable finish, it will age more slowly (I think its oxidation causing the color change). WHen the glue inside disallows breathing of the fiber at those points... you get lines, since the wood has barely aged at all. Color lines are of course different from raised (or depressed) parts of the top, which indicate a possible problem.

Assuming the guitar was not exposed to extreme adverse conditions, I would assume it's the same problem complained about throughout this vast database... quality control. I'd check into a warranty repair. Of course, you risk having an even worse condition than a striped guitar. Good luck.

I wonder.....If I put a light bulb in the body and turnd off the room lights, would the bracing pattern show through the top? You know, kind of like the flashlight pressed up against your hand thing. Interesting to see maybe. Or....it may indicate that I am spending to much time here.

See, now those are D'Armonds, right? Cuz 335s are laminate and they'd never melt. Certainly not Ovation jazzboxes...
