I would like a 12 string that would be good both acoustically and amplified. I have had two elites and currently my main guitar is the 1993 Collectors which I love. I am not sure the elite is the best base for a 12? I like the look of a slot head and have heard good things about them on this board. I can wait out ebay as long as it takes to see something I want; I am in no rush. I am looking for suggestions. I know this is probably an unfair questions but when it comes down to it, I will be buying only one guitar. Thanks for your help. Steve Kitchen Wooster Ohio

They are on ebay quite a bit. In fact there is a nice natural model 1615 Pacemaker on ebay now. It has the slotted headstock, and if you do your homework you can get one at a very good price.

Of course it would depend on the indivdual guitar, but the current Adamas 12s are the best in my experience. If your budget allows, that is what I would go for.

Perfect for recording or stage (Optima preamp, XLR out, notch filter), or just sitting around the house. AAA Sitka Spruce top, mid-depth bowl, ebony fretboard, beautiful inlay work. A joy to play, a joy to admire. Of course, the one that got away was (I think) a 1538 Elite, full body, two knobber. That was one very special guitar.

The main thing to watch for with the older guitars is the string break-angle over the saddle. Also I've heard a few which were a little lacking in low-end. The slot-head 12's look great but the downside is that string-changing is a royal pain in the hole.

I've heard people over the last couple of years on this board, claim that every USA built Ovation 12 string was the best. And again, they are all right. I personally think that Big Blue, my 1993 Adamas deep bowl 12 string is the finest 12 string I've ever heard. But my 1969 GC 12 string gets played just as much. Both have their strengths. Both have their place.

I bought mine New But if your looking for a Used 12 string try for the Custom Legend 12 or The Glen Campbell 12. The Olf Legend 12 with a Deep Bowl was nice too. If you want a good price on a new O check with Al.
