What are your thoughts on this shallow bowl 12. If the costs were comparable, would you go with a vintage 12 such as the 1618) with the old style electronics, or a newer CS255 (this particular one had the OP24+)? Or is it too much like comparing oranges to apples? Obviously unplugged the GC wins out for sound, but I guess I'm considering overall playability/versatility. Norse(curious)man1

It really comes down to what feels best to you. As Paul states, the electronics can always be upgraded so I would not compromise other qualities just to get a guitar with newer electronics. On the other hand, the acoustic sound is something that will stay the same (more or less) forever. So, my advice would be to go for sound, feel/comfort, electronics - in that order. Dave

I wish it had a bit more guts on the bass end, but I'm not an active gig player, so the issue is somewhat moot. I really like the comparatively thin neck, especially on a 12-string. It seems to hold true in its tuning & intonation real well. Yes, I would eventually like to own an old GC 12 with the deep bowl. Especially since my 1127 is arriving TODAY!!!!(I've been tracking it through the UPS website.)

It looked great, sounded great plugged in, not bad unplugged, played ok up to about the 5th fret after it was worked over, but on up the neck the action was too high & there was nothing that could be done about it without resetting the neck, which was just not worth it on a Korean guitar. No matter now, my new 1868 Elite should be here tomorrow! It seems the quality of the Korean ones varies a lot. I played a Celebrity 6 string the other day & it was really nice, mine was nearly unplayable before I had it worked on. All in all, I wish I had gone with an American guitar in the first place. I put it on with a $400 reserve the first time & it only went to $335. Two weeks later I put it on again & didn't do a reserve. It sold for $565! That's about $50 more than I paid for it over a year ago, although I paid $50 to have it set up. I played it for over a year & all I'm out is the shipping. I lost about $300 on the Epiphone 12 Riviera I sold at the same time, but between the two I only had to dig out $145 to pay for the new 1868 Elite, (that should be here in the next day or two.) Anyway it was quite dark around the edges fading in to semi-natural wood in the center. I can email you a picture if you'd like to see it. No sign of the new Elite yet. I'm getting antsy. Nils
