Location: Back in the Valley of the Sun Mesa Az. | Hi, I'm back! My wife has set up a Prozac saltlick for me in the kitchen, and I'm feeling better now...sorry about yesterday.
I have a lower end Fender acoustic just sitting around, and I thought it would be fun to try nylon strings on it. I'm new to classical/nylon. Any ideas if this would yield any true classical acoustic sound at all doing this? I am partial to finger picking, and would like to hear how it may sound on nylon strings.
Any thoughts?

If it was meant for steel strings, it's not gonna sound great with nylon strings on it. There is also the possibility of buzzing as the strings aren't gonna be pulling the neck as much as they should. |

Location: Back in the Valley of the Sun Mesa Az. | Oh well,it was a thought. I called yesterday to check on my Legend repair. The guy had an "emergency" repair to do on a totally decapitated Violin a guy needs for this weekend, and he hasn't even started my Legend yet. I am a littleconcerned, as I noticed even over a weeks time before I brought the guitar in for repair, you could see the seperation in the soundboard go from looking like a finsih crack, to bulging up and apart. Brought her in immediately as to minimize the scarring/damage, but there it has sat now for two more weeks. Do you think this is reason to be alarmed, or perhaps being unstrung and unplayed, she should be alright until the repairman can get to her?
I don't mind waiting, if the result is right, but at the same time, I don't want things to get worse while they're waiting!

I agree with Paul. I think you'd get the same effect as having really dead strings on that Fender. Not enough tension on the neck, bridge and therfore the soundboard. Plus screwing with the nut could be a pain.
If you just want to mess around with a nylon string there's an AN13 3/4 size from "The Guitar Factory" on eBay for a buck seventy with a gig bag.
Not a full size but it still might keep you warm on those cold nights. ;)

Location: Ct./ USA | How are ya gonna wrap the nylon strings on the bridge? The braces are not the same as a nylon geetar. Please pass that lick. |
