Joined: December 2001 Posts: 7247 Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | I'd call mine more "sunburst" (like the Viper sunburst), but I do have problems with shades of reds colorwise (partially colorblind) so who knows, but it looks like my other sunbursts to me. Also... to answer the original question... Main Entry: tor·na·do Pronunciation: tor-'nA-(")dO Function: noun Inflected Form(s): plural -does or -dos Etymology: modification of Spanish tronada thunderstorm, from tronar to thunder, from Latin tonare -- more at THUNDER Date: 1556 1 archaic : a tropical thunderstorm 2 a : a squall accompanying a thunderstorm in Africa b : a violent destructive whirling wind accompanied by a funnel-shaped cloud that progresses in a narrow path over the land 3 : a violent windstorm : WHIRLWIND Main Entry: con·dor Pronunciation: 'kän-d&r, -"dor Function: noun Etymology: Spanish cóndor, from Quechua kuntur Date: 1604 1 a : a very large American vulture (Vultur gryphus) of the high Andes having the head and neck bare and the plumage dull black with a downy white neck ruff and white patches on the wings b : CALIFORNIA CONDOR 2 plural condors or con·do·res /k&n-'dOr-"As, -'dor-/ : a coin (as the centesimo of Chile) bearing the picture of a condor. Sorry, but someone had to do it.

In it Kottke mentions that on one song "Car Carrier Blues" he uses a Condor. He called it an "archaic piece of musical crap" and I suppose he only used it for it's "kitsch" factor. He described it as: The sound that you'd get if you could plug a leisure suit into a wall". My thought is that it couldn't have been THAT bad if he decided to use it on the album! Like the "Jellifish", everything has it's own place in a particular application.

I have used the term "cheesey synth sound" for years to describe that kind of sound which has its place sometimes. However, after firing my Condor up last year (pic in gallery) I realized that I never heard Cheesey Synth before. It is truly the audible definition of it. It does it very well tho, with a lot of control, so I guess there is something to be said for that.

What he SAID was that the Condor came courtesy of a Calif. collector friend of his who specialized in "archaic musical crap". Sorry, Leo.
