I threw some quick pics together. I didn't spend too much time. It's hard to be in the same room with it without pluggin it in.

These are the pictures Bob Shade of Hallmark guitars took before he shipped it. Deke Dickerson was there to see it (I let Bob hang on to it for a few days till he arrived.

Deke sent me this note yesterday...

Damon--

That guitar turned out GREAT! It's one of the ones that really looks
primitive in so many ways, but then just plays itself. I seriously couldn't
stop playing on it! I think you'll be really happy with it. Bob did a
great job on it, I really couldn't tell the difference between the old
pickup covers and the one he made. A super cool example of one of the
earliest production model doublenecks...I think it's a winner.

I had a '63 that was basically the same guitar, but slightly later
pickups/vibramute etc. and that one played like crap...so I sold it. But
yours is magic.

Deke
By the way, the one that plays like crap was just reduced to $10k on Jay Rosen Guitars if anyone's interested :D

Which one is the custom made Shade pickup? Bob did a great job!

That's the kind of guitar David Lynch would probably play!

Been that, done there...

Sweet D! Its OK to be over the top if you get there first, like these ones are.

Hyper-retro-Rockabilly-Surfer-Spaceman cool! This is a piece of Americana!

If you can't fix it with a Hammer, it's an electrical problem.

Very cool. I think the cowboy boots are a required accessory for this one.

Phew! I thought some of those blackmail pictures resurfaced.

I could have some real fun with that guitar, Damon. What is the scale length of the short neck, and is is tuned to a different key?

It's a half scale, and tuned to pitch, at least that's what was intended in the beginning. I've been tuning it to open chords and fooling around some.

I talked to Shade yesterday and found out he put 10s on both necks. Bending strings on the half scale is impossible. I thought about putting 8s on it, but Bob says Deke breaks 8s. Maybe 9s are the ticket?

The 10s on the bottom are very slinky though. If Bob hadn't said anything, I would have guessed 9s.

Bobbo, I did hear a faint sound escape from the amp when I plugged it in. It was hard to hear, but I could have swore it whispered....

"Carmello"

I hope you know there's a standing invite for you if you ever make it up this way.
