Looking for used in the 300-500 dollar range, US made, deep bowl cutaway model...pref with diamond markers and ebony but that might be asking bit too much.
I had an old US Model 1112 that was quite loud, but i would like to find a similar cutaway model.
Any advice is appreciated, even if you tell me im dreaming for that price range, but hopefully its possible. Thanks in advance! |

Location: closely held secret | Not at all, my 6778LX Elite is just as loud as my 1777LX Legend, it's just a different tonal flavor.
Most of the 'volume' of a guitar comes from the top, not from the hole. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | You might have a little trouble finding a Legend or Elite in good shape in that price range, but either of those would be my goal. The cutaway Elites seem to have a little more volume on the bass end than the noncutaways, but it may be that the treble end seems quieter because of the fewer holes in the treble bout. The deep bowls are generally louder than the shallow or mid bowls. |

Location: Tennessee | The model number that suits your requirements is a 1667. I don't see them that frequently, but they do appear from time to time on eBay. You can easily score one in your price range, though it might have a laquer crack or two. Just be patient. |

Location: SoCal | Isn't the 1667 the mid depth bowl Legend cutaway? It was offered for about a year and was essentially a Glen Campbell with a cutaway. Would somebody who's not as lazy as me go check their early 80's catalogs? |

Location: cambridge, mass. usa | I have to admit im in the camp of folks who find a standard soundhole appearance to be pleasing, , especially with the way Ovation trims out the soundhole.
I guess i would have to check different models, but its hard to believe one is going to get, from a shallow bowl model, that nice resonation of bowl against ones chest when you dig in with the strumming. To me thats one of the nice things about the Ovations |

Location: Boise, Idaho | You'll probably get plenty of resonance on the back of the guitar with the shallow bowl, but you don't get as much sound coming back out the front, especially low end. If you like the round sound hole types, you might check out the 1651 on Ebay that is the subject of the John Lennon thread. A couple of us decided to pass on it, so you might pick it up for a good price. |

But wait. Here's one on eBay with a $500 BIN!
Here's a nice 1767 Legend on eBay . These usually sell for under $500.
Forget any shallow bowl model. The acoustic tone is very poor compared to a mid or deep bowl.
I think the best choices are a 1667, 1767 and 1777 Legend, or a 1778, 6778 or S778 Elite.
Look at this 6778 on eBay . That's a nice guitar for anyone here.

| Moody, I guess my 1767 needs new frets as well, or at least a serious dressing. I tune it at the harmonics, but it's sharp on many of the frets...will a quality fret dressing solve this problem? |

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | That 1768 Elite on Ebay looks like a sweet deal, if you can get him to agree to come down from the $90 shipping cost. I just emailed him and asked him why it's so high. Perhaps another inquiry would make him think twice about the high shipping. The 1768C that I just bought sounds fantastic, and if the price on this one stays down, you can't go wrong. |

My daughter's Celebrity Deluxe CS 247 is a mid bowl and has decent sound. Not as good as a deep bowl and maybe not as good as a decent supershallow with a solid spruce top, but it certainly passes and the OP30 preamp is more than adequate. Finally, the quilted nutmeg maple top is stunning. |
